Comments on Schnieder or Werner training program and whether or not the company lives up to the stuff the recruiters put out?
Also, I saw a big rant and rave on per diem , whats with that? Why all the negative? It is a choice isn't it?
Thanks
Schnieder and/or Werner

My dad drives for schnieder and so far so good. He's been there for about 10 yrs and he started out in their training program. Right out of their training program he got a dedicated account out of wilmington de. I'm looking to go to them for a bit and try for a run they have up here in CT. He said everything the recruiter told him they've done or provided. I've spoke to some werner drivers and I say go to Schnieder, that's your best bet

I can't comment on Schneider specifically, other than saying that they are a bottomfeeder company just like Werner, and you can prove this by their hiring practices. (if you meet the DOT qualifications, and their insurance requirements, you're in! Even if no truck is available). However, I worked for Werner from September 18th, 2009, until two weeks ago, and I went through 140 hours of training there, because I did not have enough experience to jump directly into a truck. That was about 3 weeks. However, my experience isn't totally relevant, because I already knew how to drive a truck, and my trainer recognized that....
You'll have to do 300 hours since you're totally new, which should be around 6 to 8 weeks.
Anyway, the recruiters did not lie to me whatsoever. Nope, sure didn't! My recruiter was Adam West. Most honest recruiter I have ever dealt with!
He told me i could go home every weekend. Yup, sure could, for 24.5 hours! So I just went home every two weeks for a whole weekend.
He told me I'd average 800 to 900 a week. Yup, sure did. Usually grossed $750 a week, every once in a while $800
The last two months I worked there sucked. I averaged $200 a week. It's really a feast or famine there. Never in between. I was on the fence for a while about leaving, didn't wanna get stuck at another bottomfeeder and waste my energy switching companies. The last month I worked there, i was trying to get into a trainer class and they kept conveniently making me miss the class. Whatever.
I don't regret working at Werner. At one point, they were the only company that would hire me (i live in michigan, hard place to get a job at, plus i was a ####### lol), and I got the experience i needed to get the job I have now, pulling a tanker.
But the money really wasn't worth it for the work performed...and thats with any bottom feeder.. -

The OP started this thread asking the same questions, with some typo's. I replied, about 5 minutes worth of typing. Came back to new posts, and the original and my reply were gone. What da crap. I didn't imagine it did I? May be it's good I'm not driving right now!

You call SNI a "bottomfeeder". Ye, with 2 whole years of experience and never having worked for them. Sounds like you commented on SNI just the same.
You just seem to know a hell of a lot at age 23. FYI, no, they do not just hire anyone. Your broad-based comments are simply inaccurate on occasion, and this is one of them.
You were trying to get into a trainer's class at Werner? And your trainer recognized that "you already knew how to drive a truck"?
I hope your ego doesn't get in the way when you're pulling that tanker. -
You didn't read the posts about the per diem did you? Yes its opt (sometimes) in BUT why are you getting screwed for a penny a mile or more for this freaking privilege? It is a total scam them charging you a penny a mile for every mile you drive for them to "do the work to figure out your per diem"!
And that's ONLY the first problem! GO READ ALL THE POSTS ABOUT PER DIEM! It can't be any plainer how a per diem (paid) screws with workers comp, unemployment, social security, bank loans. YOU DID NOT READ THEM and even as hard as I tried to make it so a kiddygarder could understand it you didn't and I've done several posts in different threads on this stupid per diem idea some low life came up with! So that's what's up with that! Go here;; http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...pany-here/94800-werner-per-diem-fraud-10.html go to page 10 post 91 and read from there! Hopefully you'll figure it out and stay away from any company that CHARGES you to do that stupid screw you/your life per diem! Just so you get a piddling little amount a week! -
I'll try to remember my original reply.
I've been with both.
Werner, well, they didn't come out and baldface lie. But they may as well have. My recruiter told me I'd be getting .35/mile. Imagine my surprise on my first pay stub, it was .28/mile. Was told by payroll, once I finally got through, that yes, I was being paid .28. Called the half baked recruiter I had. She says she thought I understood that the .35/mile was with bonuses. No, I was not told that upfront. Well, I lasted another 9 weeks.
Werner trainers. A joke at best. A lot of the idiotic things I saw drivers do, driving with locked up brakes due to being frozen, and another had the airlines backwards, were trainers. One "said" he had been driving for 15 years, the one with the frozen brakes. That was after I got his brakes working for him. IMO, stay away, WAY FAR away. We care, weener cares, that's another crock! I was never so embarrassed in my life driving there.
SNI, no they are NOT perfect either, but compared to the previous long winded paragraph, believe me you're much better off there. I never felt mislead, let alone lied to. They do what they say they will. Make no mistake on that.
Now I was experienced before either weener or SNI, so I didn't have a trainer like a new guy. But, I've spoke with trainers on both sides of the border for SNI. Most were pretty knowledgeable, and didn't appear to be in it for the bucks. A couple, I wouldn't let drive a goatcart. You have good and bad trainers in any company, it's basically the luck of the draw.
Good luck with who ever you choose. Just because SNI was the better of the big companies I've been with, doesn't mean they are for everyone.
PS, IMO, these 2 companies shouldn't even be mentioned together on the same topic.Civilservant Thanks this. -
I did read the posts... however venom does not make for an intelligent argument.
Let me see if I get this... you get 52.00 a day, TAX FREE, that's about what 3600 extra a year in your pocket../.that's bad why?
