Okay, here's the deal. I can't give details, but I have the chance to do a really neat specialty load for the Gov't (non-military) next week going from Colorado Springs to Homestead AFB.

According to my Trips & Streets, it has me going US24 E. out of hte Springs to I-70, then I-70 to I-55 (I-64) then I-64 to I-57, to I-24,then I-75 to the Fla. Turnpike to I-95 then into Homestead. Basically Colo., KS, Mo., Ill., Ky., Tenn, Ga., Fla..

I won't be driving my sleeper truck, I'll be driving a daycab and specialized trailer, so I will be staying in a hotel for my 10 hrs off. I'm leaving on the 19th and have to arrive in Homestead on the 22nd then flying back to Denver on the 23rd. Until I get behind the wheel, I am figuring the truck will only do 65 mph.

Figuring my route, I show leaving the Springs about 10am on the 19th, stopping for the night in Columbia, Mo. about 8pm. I figure I will only be able to do 62 mph. Then leaving at 6am on the 20th, streets and trips has me making it almost to Valdosta, Ga. the next day, I was contemplating stopping in Atlanta, Ga.. Then stopping somewhere N. of Miami (W. Palm Beach) and arriving at Homestead about 9am on the 22nd.

Does this sound logical, or would you guys who are more familiar suggest a different route, should I stay Southern more with my route or stick with the suggested?

I was thinking more along the lines of going So. from the Springs down 287 stopping in Wichita Falls, TX., then across 20 into Miss. and So. on US 49 via Hattiesburg, then catching I-10 near Mobile then across to I-75 and So.

I don't know how much southern running you do, but 10 and 20 are my forte. My only concern with your planned route would be... is whatever is in the trailer fragile?

I-20 coming out of Dallas is one rough SOB and on either side of Jackson, MS, they paved the road without the aid of a transit level. We are talking serious whoop-dee-dos that would make a fine motocross track. 49 southbound out of Jackson ain't all that great either.

Striker, when you get down around Fort Pierce on the Pike in Florida, look to stop there for the night, that's going to put you within a few hours of homestead, and there is a pilot and I believe a flying j right there, you'll be parallel to 95 as well if that's the route you decide to take down to homestead. I've only been to homestead once and my company would not pay the tolls on the pike so i had to take 75 to alligator alley then down, either way, point I'm trying to make is hit that ft. pierce exit because you're not going to find much south of there. Have fun, drive safe.

As far as I know the trailer is not fragile, it may even be empty (I really don't know that much about this yet).

Trashtrucker, I won't have a sleeper so I'll be staying hotels each night.

Here it is five minutes later and I just remembered you said you were going to be staying in hotels along the way, disregard everything I previously said, other than "enjoy your trip". Hope my total disregard to your original post doesn't make you question my advice in future repsonses:biggrin_25521:
