Hey Blue, When you are training ask every question that comes into your head. That is the only way to learn. All of the racks are different but they also have somethings that are the same. Driving is only part of the job. Safely loading and unloading seems to be the big part of the job. Just go nice and slow, double check, triple check before you pull the handle or press start.

I thank you for your service to our country Hand.

Blue this is great advice, another peace of advice don't let your trainer do any of loading or unloading after the first day or night. You will not pick this up by watching you need to jump right in there and get you your feet wet. Look foward to hear how well your first day of training went. Best of luck to you

What's happening fellas? First day in the books...lots of paperwork via computer and films and quizzes. Spent time in the shop with mechanic going over equipment inspections. Nice people at the terminal. Gotta go apply for TWIC in morning before I start day 2. The excitement will begin when I at least have paper showing I applied. Be safe out there!!

Wow it is funny how quick the training program changes my first I did about a half hour of paper work and straight into the truck. Take advantage of your trainer if you are not doing anything besure to ask all the questions you can, make him earn his trainers pay.
-
It also seems that the hiring process is a little different at each terminal as well.

WOW!!! That's the only word that comes to mind after my first day riding in the truck today. It seems overwhelming all the information and procedures u have to remember. We sure r responsible for a lot. I know just like anything...the more u do it the easier it gets...but now all I can do is shake my head as I soak it all in.
On another note I hope to get use to 6 on 2 off schedule...plus working nights. Especially during football season!!
Later...be safe! -
I KNOW, you will get it all you should have done is observe your first day. The more you do it the easier it will become. Before you know it you will be giving that old fart John Miles tips on how to do it.
Wow we get 1 weekend night off in conjunction with a week night. I get every Sunday and Monday off unless they want to pay me an extra 50 to come in on a night off. I am more of a fan off the Pro game than I am the collge game that is why I work my schedule. getting to Church is a little trickey though. -
I survived my first day on my own. I did two loads and drove 390 miles. Now I am off for two days.
-
Hopefully I will get on my own soon. What terminal do u run out of mikeymike? Here in Charleston we only load out of two terminals. Thought I read that u have to put on a fire suit to get loaded somewhere. So far I havent encountered anything like that.
Smoke, I'm hopeful that once I get my time in that I can have set days off as well...not gonna rock the boat though. Some of the guys here have set days off and only work 5 day weeks...lucky them. I'm off for next 2 days then tues. I get to show my stuff. Peace!
