They should have cast that guy Vince that does the vids on youtube. He does a really good job! No drama though! More realistic! He is under "journey95" for the newbies that want to check it out. Good show for showing you guys what is like out there.

Ice Road Truckers is entertainment, ok? Should be titled "The adventures of Hugh and Alex". Who cares who gets the most loads? Those guys are a little out in left field anyway. They live in some forsaken land in NWT or The Yukon, and drive in an equally forsaken land of ice and -40 degree weather. I'll stay in sunny southern Ca.

I would suspect that I80 across the Keystone is much more dangerous and statistically much deadlier in the winter than the route they are running on Ice Road Truckers. I fully understand the terrain and road is worse, but everyone up there is accustomed to driving in those conditions whereas here they are not since half of them have been in the country for about 9 days.. Plus, they have 92 vehicles per day crossing a certain point whereas thousands pass through Snow Shoe even on the worst of days/nights.

I have no idea regarding the actual stats, but I would be willing to wager that Pa, Mi, and say NY state are far more dangerous statistically in the winter than what they are doing. I guess I'll never break through the ice, but if I go off the 200' bridge on the curve I'm done anyway.. Just another reality show with fake hyped up drama to me..

    Uh, not exactly.

Carlisle is an American company, from Alaska.

Hugh and Alex are Canadian, but the rest of the drivers are American. And there's a reason these clowns have been banned from the Yellowknife - Diamond Mines ice road (season 1).

I80 is not an ice road. Ever driven in freezing rain? It is like that daily on these roads. The weather is extreme and the roads are not like the I80.

Show has some dramatization but trust me, these roads are deadly. Crash over the side and help is hours away. Even then the help is not what you can get in the lower 48. There is a reason they are paying huge money for people to drive these roads. Driving a 4 lane highway in a blizzard is not like driving a narrow bush road during the same conditions.

Those are extreme roads and are driven under extreme conditions. Makes these guys extremely ballsy drivers in my opinion.

I've been with IRT from the beginning as well. I find it amusing, mostly.

One question though. My tivo lists Rick Yemm on the credits and he hasn't been on the show for two years. Anybody else notice notice that? Or know what is up with that?

Alot of what happens on the ice road truckers show is made up!!! I would rather drive the roads up there other than the lakes what could be worse than some of the roads in the lower 48?? I live in montana we have traffic cars and trucks etc the have little to no traffic up there just other trucks to manuever around...

Absolutely.. I've run I80 from Ohio to Jersey in freezing rain, sleet, snow, and wind as thousands of other American truck drivers have. In fact, I ran I80 in Pa every day for about 6 years at Con-way Freight till a COO took me where I'm now at.. One day that sticks in my mind was a heavy holiday travel day where the road was nothing but black ice - no dis-respect to Hugh and Alex but I don't think they were dodging cars from NJ, Ct, NY, Ma, Me, and Pa in heavy traffic with a set of doubles.. Off the top of my head about 200 Con-way Freight drivers made it both ways without incident - as did all the FedEx, UPS, and Pa large cars I encountered that night.. I have no idea what the numbers would say, but like I said and I'll keep saying it.. I80 across the Keystone from December - March has to be much more deadly than any ice road. I remember back in 2002 9 people were killed in a pileup at mm 162 in the Snow Shoe region.. The Discovery Channel likes to show a cross or two but unfortunately, I80 in Pa is lined with them end to end.. I don't even run 80 anymore but to say an obscure road in Alaska is more life threatening is ridiculous..

Really? (< sarcasm) ...... I just got a kick out of the OP talking about Alex and Hugh and American Idols in the same sentence. I'm sure he knew they were Canadian too.

So...... what's the deal with them being "banned" from yellowknife? I don't follow the show that much but, this keeps coming up.
