The higher paying good jobs !!!!!

You do not have to do like 95% of them do..............

Start on a loading dock somewhere, work your way up to a driving job !!!!!

But, nobody wants to do that, they'd rather be abused by some of the lowest forms of employers imaginable !!

You could utilize your CDL A in local jobs such as distribution. Pepsi, Budweiser, US Foods, milk runs, stick hauler (furniture)...
Where are you located?

 

Something else to conside is fams or garbage compan ies. One thing to be prepared for is the [hysical labor involved with local drivng. It's what I do and I love it. Gets you out of the truck and moving arund. Also talk to some local employment agencies, that's how Ifound my curent job.

 

Listen to what others are saying. I have done this for 20+ years and have never done OTR. For the reasons you cited as well as the pay, benefits and home time or lack there of. Plus, I don't work for free. Neither should you or anyone else for that matter. Do yourself and your family a favor and read both the good and bad company forums. You will find that, for the most part, they are all the same. Some better and some worse. Only the truck colors change. Try to finding a trucking career not a trucking job. You will see the difference.

You can get a Non OTR postion right out of school, some will try to say you HAVE
to go OTR to get experience before getting something local which is NOT true.

Where are you located? If you would happen to be in South Louisiana I'm looking
for a driver and could hire someone right out of school as long as there are no
accidents in the last 3 yrs where you are at fault.

 

I'm in school right now and was told the same thing about the OTR "requirement", but I want OTR anyway, ASAMFP, anything to get me out of Houston, I dont' care. I can make some money, get some bills paid and not have to deal with the wife #####in ALL THE TIME....yes....Truckin is for me!

 

I hope you don't get offended by what I'm about to say(and if you do, oh well), but with a post like that, my guess is that OTR will kill your marriage, unless you and your wife head to a good marriage counselor or coach. It takes a strong marriage, and a willingness from both people to make a marriage work under difficult conditions, when one of those people is gone for long periods of time.

 

I would personally recommend you not going over the road if you have a family. The recruiters are going to make it sound all sugar and spice but its not. You will be out for at least a month with a few days to spend at home. I think the going rate is one day off for every 7 days out. Don't get me wrong. Trucking is a great career! VERY, VERY, TOUGH on those with a family. Just listen to those country songs! Good luck!
