Kruger needs to investigate further into the lack of availability of healthy food to the driver due to "No Trucks Allowed" everywhere you look. Society has us pushed in a corner.
biker dave, rocknroll nik and JimDriv3r Thank this. -
pay me for 10 hours, work me for 2, and i'll eat right, play golf, and even ball room dance.

maybe they should have professional athletes drive in the off season.
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
Sorry Condo, but to me that's just a defeatist, victim mentality. Drivers DO need to start taking more interest in their health. Most WalMart parking lots are fine for trucks. Also, there are lots of grocery stores near lots of truck stops. Go for a walk, and carry your food back. It's healthy for you.
Now, I'm not picking on you in particular, Condo. It's just that too many want to cry about the situations they encounter, and too few want to look at the situation and try to create a solution.JChors Thanks this. -
That's a total cop out!
I don't buy the tired old "We have no choice" argument!
I prefer the "We're too ###### lazy to do anything for ourselves" argument!
I carry food with me, I regularly eat in places other than truckstops, I get off my ### and get excersize while I see all the lardasses sitting in their trucks staring out the window or eating a pizza and drinking a 5000 ounce soda or cussing each other out on the radio and complaining that they don't get treated with the respect that they deserve when in fact...They don't usually deserve what little respect that they do get because they don't have any respect for themselves or anyone or anything around them!
Until some drivers start to get a "clue" about how to take even the most basic care of themselves both physicaly and mentally they are asking to be treated as outcasts and to be shunned by those of us that have some respect for ourselves and for those around us!
I have never been turned away from any place that I have wanted to park at or eat at or shop at, Because I don't present myself as a stinky, mindless cretin with a couple of piss bottles that I intend to dump in your parking lot as soon as I think no one's looking...Nor do I drive over landscaping or trees or customers vehicles when I'm entering or leaving the premises or toss my trash bags out on the ground.
These type of drivers aren't in the shape they're in because they don't have choices...They're in the shape they're in because they are lazy and don't care!Calve, TheHealthyDriver, rocknroll nik and 6 others Thank this. -
I think everyone here has valid points. Alot of times it is hard to find truly healthy food but alot of times it is due to laziness and lets face it some of the other things w9 stated.
It would be nice if the truck stops were set up a little better in the way of "choices" for us so that when there aren't convenient places for us to get to we can still eat better than mickey d's etc.... -
I have a propensity to gain weight easily and have teetered over the years, so I have to be very careful. I hate the direction of the truck stops over the last few years with the changeover to fast food franchises.
However, as stated by others, it's all up to us.
I have a refer and microwave in my truck. I am careful what I eat, try and snack on veggies and miniature whole grain shredded wheat (that one drives my wife crazy!), and try and stay away from the buffets.
I walk most evenings after parking, if only around the truck stop for a few laps.
I have managed to keep the weight off, bp down and generally healthy.
What amazes me is listening to so many complain, but not do anything about it.
It isn't easy, but it's doable, and I can virtually guarantee you the government is going to force us to become more responsible.
Just once, it would be nice to see another person walking the truckstop just for exercise.
When I found out this past year I was a bit above the 'overweight' and into the 'obese' column in the BMI index, I decided to do something. I am now 15 pounds under the max.
If I can do it, so can many others. We just have to apply ourselves. -
It's not the government's problem or responsibility to save me from myself! Get the hell out of my life!!! No one asked for, needs, or wants their ####### help!!!

You mix up lazy with working so many long hours you are too tired to do anything. Sorry but I stayed in shape until I was 40.
Health problems is why I gained weight. Your thyroid gland controls your metabolism. When it dies, all kind of nice things happen. Read up on it and you might learn something. As many truckers have thyroid problems as they do sleep apnea.
I use to think like you all do and joke about fat people. When it happened to me, I got educated on Hypothyroidism and my thoughts changed. If you still have a normal body weight, it's because you have an over active thyroid and a high metabolism.
Most drivers are overweight. They are all not lazy. The lifestyle and medical problems brings it on and lack of convenience to do things is a problem. The lack of time is another problem. I don't know about you but after working 14-18 hours everyday, I'm not motivated to run a marathon.
I do the Walmart thing when I can. I park in the spot farthest away in the truckstops. -
My trainer absolutely REFUSES to take me to a WalMart. Consequently, I refuse to eat. *Grin* I am drinking water and fruit juice, however. Maybe one day I will get to WalMart and get some apples, oranges, bananas and cheerios to snack on.
