Yeah, got this trailer pre-loaded, so didn't see the hinge. It was in closed position until I opened the door I didn't notice it. Hinges are now part of my PTI.
So I finally got my preplan. Picking up at Taylor Farms in Dallas, about a mile from the yard. 300+ miles empty. At least I get paid to get back to the yard this way. Better than deadheading it for free.
Should be on the yard tomorrow afternoon about three. Hope some of you are still there, probably will be, lol.

Stretching the truth, maybe, but I would bet most of those trucks were from oregon/washington just passing thru, which would not work to get you home.

Stevens requires a felon to be at least 7 years out of prison, before they will consider them for employment. A lease operator is bound by all of Stevens policies.

I feel lucky. I cleared the yard in just over a day. As I have learned from more senior drivers, you have to have a game plan and implement it when trying to clear the yard That is exactly what I did. I ran into a few drivers who were sitting on the yard since Monday complaining that they could not get cleared.

My time on the yard was not without it's frustrations. Just after I went to sleep on Thursday night there was a knock on the door. Being that this was the yard and not a truckstop I knew it was not a truckstop reptile. I answered the door and it was a mechanic telling he was going to work on my truck. He told me the truck would be done just after midnight. It was 2230. Midnight comes and goes and the truck is still not ready. At 0130 I was finally given a hotel pass, however, there was no one to drive me to the hotel. After some time the maintenance supervisor found someone on who was on light duty in the shop and gave me a ride. I made it to sleep just after 0230.

The alarm went off way too early at 0545. I caught the shuttle back to the yard and I had to do two laps around the yard to find my truck. The rest of the day I spent in class and completing my clearance sheet.

I had the pleasure of enjoying the company of TLeaHeart and eating dinner with him in the driver's lounge.

This morning I did the Summer workshop. Before the workshop they conducted an accident review board. That was a good experience and I highly recommend all drivers sit in on at least one. All of the accidents that were reviewed were from the previous week. There must have been 50 of them. A large portion of the incidents occurred in truckstops or shippers/receivers. They were mostly backing accidents (not getting out and looking) and damage when pulling out of a space. One trainee smoked the brakes while going down a mountain. The trainer was in the sleeper making a drink. There were few actual crashes that happened on the roadway. Most of the incidents were preventable.

Well, I was told my truck has been sold and to report to Dallas for truck reassignment. First finish delivery to Houston and wait for a load going to Dallas. That was Thursday. I delivered and waited until they sent me the load assignment to pick up in Dallas. I get to Dallas and the load is already loaded on a trailer and there is nowhere to put the empty trailer I arrived with. So I have to drop my trailer, hook up and pull the loaded trailer and drop it in the middle of the lot, drop it, hook back up to the empty I arrived with, put it into the dock slot I pulled my loaded trailer out of, then drop it there and hook back up to my loaded trailer. All in 105 degrees and sun.
So, covered in sweat, I drive the half hour to the Dallas yard, arrive, go through the safety lane for inspection, and go into dispatch to turn over the bills for the loaded trailer. There I'm yelled at for bringing a loaded trailer to the yard. sigh. So I explain that I waited in Baytown for a load to get me to the yard because the truck was sold and they wanted it there before Monday morning. I also explained that I said so with each message about the load, the load acknowledgment, the arrived at shipper, and the loaded and rolling messages. He had to admit he didn't read that and it was his fault.
Anyway, I find out there are no unassigned trucks and I will have to put my stuff into storage until I get a truck. Could be Monday, probably not. I might be here a week or more. I've heard many drivers back when I was in school here saying they had been waiting two weeks and more. I hope they got that problem permanently sorted! I spent a week here a couple of weeks ago for graduation and classes having to do with moving to full fleet from student fleet. Then I spent three days waiting for a load to get back here, so to say I'm short on funds is an understatement! I paid my pawn loans and got this cheap laptop at a pawn shop when I was here in Dallas a couple weeks ago, and held off on paying the phone, so if I spend more than a couple of days here my phone will be shut off again. sigh.
Gads, days in the hotel with a roommate again! OH NO! lol
So now I have to pack up everything in the truck so I can store it, except my clothes and such to take to the hotel. Then in the morning it's over to the truck shop to hand over the keys to old black bessy and sign up for another truck. I sure hope I don't get a crappy old junker Kenworth t-2000. BLEH. But guess I'll take what I get and get back on the road. Can't make money sitting on the Dallas yard.
Look for the heavy guy with glasses and a worn blue denim cap and say hi. Tho the cap might be in the laundry tonight and I'll wear my Cubs one.
