I've been running local for the last 7 years and getting tired of it. Really interested in running otr. Just wondering what company would be the best way for me to go.

If I were you I would look in your local telephone book in the transportation section. Most of the sad stories you will read in this forum come from people being far from home when their employment ends.

Why go otr??,..
If you can make as much or more money being local and going home at night,..Not having to sleep in a truck and deal with skanky truck stop showers,....
If your in a stable position stay put,....Freebird135 Thanks this. -
He's tired of local. He said so himself. Not everyone is happy watching the weeds grow around their shoes. And not everyone is here to get rich. Although I'm sure all of us expect to make decent money.
Many of us bounce from Local, OTR, and Regional, when we feel the urge. We make our own deals when we hire on.
Unlike some drivers, there are those of us who are perfectly happy running in any capacity and negotiating our own terms to a company when we hire on.
The 14 other slubs who went through orientation with me will be waiting a full year for vacation. I get mine at 6 months, and another at 12.
Know what you want. Know how to ask for it. And know when to walk out the door. -
Check with Conway Truckload. I know they used to offer a second seat refresher, that took about 2-3 weeks.
It wasn't actually a refresher. It was a second seat position, that lasted 2 weeks, as the first seat driver monitored your skills....when he was awake LOL
Those "teams" ran priority when I was there. Not sure they even offer it any more. But worth a shot. -
I bounced back and forth for years doing local and OTR. Always missed OTR, for whatever reason, Guess I like being punished.

im doin the same stunt driver. i understand how things get running local, i run the same strech of road, I40 from K-town to Hickory Nc 4 days a week... (4days is all my comp will let me run, that why im looking for another company) i think if you do a little research you will be surprised how many will take yrs of local experience in place of OTR. most will ask at least 2-3yrs of local to replace 1yr of OTR but with 7yrs local under your belt and a good clean record I dont really think you will have any problems at all. best of luck to you driver.

Yeah just getting sick of the same ol' accounts and stupid people day after day.

Stay with the local you will reget leaving. I know i to have the love hate relationship with OTR but make more money local and get to sleep in your own bed with your old lady.
If you find it hard to find a company to sign on with. Theres always the bottom feeder companys. Can you say SWIFT LOL J/K -
Just because a guy has a local job, doesn't make it much better than OTR.
I know guys running local...basically working 70 hours/week in a daycab.
14 bucks an hour, no OT, lousy bennies.
Lots of multi-stop, LTL-type stuff.
Roadrunner, R&L, PJAX...outfits such as these are ALWAYS hiring...just like their OTR brethren.
Now if you find the RIGHT local job...you will NEVER EVER leave.
$78k and home every night/off every weekend...I can put up with the slow trucks and same roads every day.
