Idle it like you would anywhere else. I think it was 25% idle time in the summer. I'm a northern kid, and I got my idle bonus in the summer. You can also send a freeform message giving the date and place and temp, and a lot of times it won't go against you. That was last summer, things may have changed, I'm not sure about that.![]()

How long is Schneiders Orientation?
Do You get paid for It? How Much?
Is their Truck skills test difficult? How long is It?
How long do You have to go out with the Trainer?
What Kinds of Trucks are usually available?
How much do You get paid in the Training part of It? -
SNI has been good to me. I started off with them as a solo driver and miles where short but I had a great DBL. Then I jumped to Nissan Dedicated to get the miles and the Nissan Dedicated team out of Nashville TN is great also. Godbless.......

They have a website.
The orientation is about 3 weeks - can go to four but not too often.
Week One: Academy. How to do things the Schneider way.
Week Two: Out with your Trainer.
Week Three: Take your final drive test and written tests.
If you paid attention you will do fine.
$300 a week. Paid on Friday.
Drive test: Can you drive it or not ?
Trucks are typically Freightliner flat-tops for noobs. Cascadias for Teams. There are other trucks but you are at the mercy of the yard when you are assigned your truck. I just happened to be in line when a Team got a new truck and the one they were using hit the Available list. I grabbed it.
I drive a Freightliner Condo. It's an Automatic and it pulls hills hard. I really dig it.
Schneider is good to me. I work hard, am on a Dedicated account and I make very good money for a new driver.
You will work as hard as you want provided you act respectful and don't act like a fool. Through down some attitude and you will sit for days.one37 Thanks this. -
I will drive anything they give me and go where ever they want me too and don't require supreme hometime but my only question is do they give you enough time to get the load there on time to avoid service failures and such. Do they take in account the weather or other such things that may pop up out there. Just curious if they give you enough time to the delivery window. Thanks.

Capt_Gruuvy:
I'm really interested in Schneider as well, especially how I hear they treat their military vets. I have a few concerns though:
How strict are they with their drive test? What all does it consist of? I know they have very high standards, and I can drive (although pretty danged rusty since its been so long since I drove anything over 10 wheels -- taking a CDL refresher in a couple weeks), I'm just concerned that if I make a couple slip ups (like need to do a couple pull ups while backing or have to get out and look a couple times, miss a gear, etc) will they send you home?
For a guy with no more than 2 weeks driving experience beyond initial training, then a refresher, I'm a little worried about only doing a 3 week orientation, and only a week of that out driving with a trainer. Other than Watkins & Shepard, thats the shortest training time I've heard of yet. Good to be able to get you out on your own sooner, but not so good if you don't have any practical experience. IMHO that is.
They haven't went all AutoShift yet have they? Do you know anything about the Tanker Division?
I read their website, and I've talked to a recruiter, but as far as I'm concerned thats all propoganda. (I spent too much time in the military to trust ANY recruiter! LOL) I'd much rather get the info from somebody there.
Sorry to beat you up with all these questions. I just haven't seen the answers post elsewhere yet. -
I went through Charlotte a few months back.
The orientation wasnt too bad. Some of the instructors needed to kick the military attitude, just my 2 cents.
The driving test wasnt bad.You get road time, before they test you,and most will help you.If you get someone you dont like, just ask to be moved to another trainer. It happened while I was there.Try and get Mike Owens If in Charlotte.Awesome guy,and very patient.
They werent sendin ANYONE home, they actually were trying to get guys back that left. They need drivers. As long as your not on dope, and can stand up your golden
I hated the trip planning tests they had.Absolute pita!!Youll do fine driver, and most of the folk I met were good to me.Thereas always gonna be one or two bad apples anywhere.DRWfan/11cups and one37 Thank this. -
The best answer I have is to agree with Opus 6. They are not interested in sending you home. They spend money training you and they want you to stay. They will work as hard as you want them to. It's really just like that.
As far as delivery times and such; I can only say I have not been late or put into a situation that I could only fail. I have always had the opportunity to call in and say, "I'm not sure about this ...." and have a reasonable conversation with someone who helped me relax over my concerns.
If there are weather issues you report them. If you have service issues you report them too. If you are late you pop a Mac29 into your QC on the dash and let them figure out if a Transfer is needed or the customer is cool with you being late.
I broke down and they sent a Team to grab my trailer to finish the delivery. I got paid for what I had completed, Breakdown pay, Layover Pay and had a loaner the next day and was running again on my normal schedule.
The drive test is so easy it's not worth thinking about. I never had a 53' behind me and I passed no problem. My Trainer was so cool and we are still friends. My T.E. (over the road Trainer) was a bit of a Dork but he tryed his best to make sure I was where I needed to be skills-wise to pass the test and get my own truck.
I am an Accountant Technology Specialist. From software to Big Boy Hardware ... truly, if I can, you can.
Give it try.
Now if you are a good lookin' sweetheart that loves Truckers and can drive safe let me know cause we could go Team and make more money ....one37 Thanks this.
