But NYC is so fun. I can get away with so much #### over there i'd never get away with anywhere else.

Man, last time i went to NYC, i got soo totally lost. I tried to go out the way i went in instead of following the automated route i was given. One of the streets was a one way, and the correct road to take was not possible to turn onto.

now, i use my GPS in NYC...not for the directions, but just to see where i am compared to where i need to be. I found a round about but it was about 1/4 mile diameter, with lots and lots of exits...I used it to turn around but accidently got off on the exit before the one i needed...onto some residential street with trees on both sides that were WAAAY low clearance. But it was one way and i hit the center lane to save the day. Made a right turn onto the road i needed to be on, made a left turn onto the safe Atlantic Avenue towards the BQE..wow. Somehow i got confused by a mis-aligned street sign and made a right thinking i had to do that to stay on atlantic, and an odd shaped intersection. I end up on another street, headed straight for the manhattan bridge. Nooo. I make a left turn and then another left turn figuring i'd go around a block...roads looked safe. Well, after that last left turn i have a traffic director pointing at a sign saying "do not enter" and giving me the WTF?!?! look. Road turned into a one way after i turned onto it..gawd....

He backed me up through the intersection and told me how to get on my way. Good thing i had him... :)

But seriously....where else can you get away with half the stuff that you have to do just to survive the drive over there?

man, i swear, i lose weight every time i go. I'm always shaking and sweating and puttin the death grip on the steering wheel. Soo stressful, even when you dont get lost. So easy to FEEL lost when you arent. I especially hate stopping in the middle of a left hand turn to make sure i'm going to clear an overpass that should have been friggin marked..especially when its exactly at 13'6.75 to the point you're actually scraping the dang thing..

NYC is best if you get in Before 3:00 am and out ASAP
have patience and know your route in and out. Check your motor carrier atlas and if use GPS make sure the software is for TRUCKs.

Well I have only been there once in a big truck, and I'm not an experience driver at all. But part of the reason is the traffic. The other is that like a lot of older cites its just not very truck friendly. Lots of low bridges and tunnels. Not a lot of parking, crime, things like that.. plus a lot of the the places to load and unload are hard to get to, and are really tight. Add to that New York drivers are crazy. we had a women driver come speeding on to the freeway that was wall to wall cars. She merged with out looking then at the last second saw us and the fact that there was no room and smashed her car into a snow bank. She drove through it without stopping road the shoulder until there was an opening and pulled in. The whole time she did this was not going slower then 40mph:biggrin_2556: I didn't think it was all that bad but we did most of our driving at night. Some people love it some hate it. Just depends on what kind of driver you are.

well sense new york is my favorite place to talk about ill make a comment to your quetion.
there is no place that has an attitude like new york and i've been to them all, i quit running new york over 40 years ago and i wont ever go back. why? well to start they all have a smart mouth, they dig a ditch thrue a cow pasture then charge you a toll to cross it, they all drive like there the only ones on the road and when somthing happens it's always the trucks fault .
the cops well there the best , a lot like german gustapo troops and all have a attitude, and if you run new york long enough you will wind up in jail and that is an expeirence you will just love. and no you don't have to do anything wrong.

the tolls you have to pay while your there is just plain nuts now the last time i was ther it cost a 150.00 bucks by the time you got out of there and that was a long time ago im sure it is more then that now.

it's really a lovly place to go but not for me id rather do jail , but that is just me and my opinion. best of luck to you. southernpride :biggrin_25514:
