I am wondering if any new grads have made it into their own truck without a diploma or equivalent? I would say I'm an intelligent person. I read about 5 novels a week could do some trig if my life were on the line however I would hate to ruin my credit by defaulting on a loan by getting canned at the 11th hour cause someone realized I havent got a hs diploma. What have you folks experienced?

You need to get your GED. You can go to the local library and check the study materials and find out where you can test. Every job application I ever filled out always asked for a HS diploma or a GED. You might find some that don't but why should you limit yourself?

This is how my H.S. Diploma has worked for me.

Joining the Marine Corps, they wanted to see it, and that was in 1967.

After the Marines, I determined that being a civilian "Sucked". Went into the Army as a Combat-Medic, and they wanted to see it.

After the Army, I decided I wanted to use that "Fine G.I. Bill" and go to college and major in Criminology. They wanted to see it.

While in college, I needed some extra cash, so I applied at "Goodhew Ambulance", and they wanted to see it.

After my second semester, I was recruited by the Riverside Police Department in California (Where I Retired From), and they wanted to see it.

After a couple of years off, I came to Prime. It was a little different here. They handed me a schedule and basically said, "Look Left, Look Right, Can you Read This, and What is your name", Next !!! :biggrin_255:

Thanks for the replies y'all I checked out the local unemployment office and they offer a free refresher course and the exam is free as long as you pass. Found out I need the GED to qualify for a WIA grant to pay for school. Which kinda sucks cause I had a class A with tanker and hazmat in the late 90's and lost it. I can get them back now,but don't have a truck and trailer to test in! Any O/O in Lexington/Redbank SC that would let me test in their rig? You would of course be compensated. Thank-you

No one in trucking will ever care. They just want a body in the truck...
