I run local here in Florida and have the same urges to run regional, there's a side to local that I enjoy but another side to getting out of the state that intrigues me. I'm one of those guys putting in 70 plus hours a week and home every night, believe me when I ran regional I had more of a life than what I have now. I typically get up between midnight and 2 am and am gone all day and the only thing I want to do when I get home is eat dinner and head to bed. so enough of telling this guy to stay put with his local gig, if he wants to run the road so be it, it's a good life out there if you find the right company and a good mix of hometime, so to the original poster what is your location and what exactly is it you're looking for in an OTR job?

You're like me. I'll do one for awhile then get a wild hair... and switch.
You'll have to do a refresher somewhere. Where do you live? What do you like to pull?
I'm talking with a local equipment rental company now. Moving their heavy equipment back and forth to job sites. I might swap with ya!

Did you go to a trucking school before you drove local? I think a lot of companies require it. I like over the road better myself. It is a whole different job! I can't stand the same thing over and over. I actually prefer not to do dedicated runs too.

I wonder,...Has to OP tried moving to a better local job??,....

I'm in the southeast right now. Only really ran reefer and dry van locally. Flatbed seems interesting but so far most companies won't hire me because of where I live. Ya I went to a school to get my A.

StuntDriver, I work for Pritchett Trucking in Lake Butler, Fl, I don't know where exactly you're at in the south, but we hire in the south and have different divisions to choose from, I run local but have run OTR for them, we are an aggregate hauler pulling mostly live floors and long dumps and run most of our trucks in about a 7 state radius in the southeast, some guys stay out longer and go all over the place just depending on the load. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in and wanted to know more about it just let me know I'd be happy to answer any questions, in January I'll have been here 3 years and I'm still very happy with the job and the company as a whole.

OTR is just different then local. That would be why he would want to change jobs. If you like to go back and forth you should look at a company that has both local and OTR so you can transfer between the two.
