Where can someone find a repo truck in the midwest. I,m thinking at an auction, but don,t know, where they have auctions at in the midwest. And how about a check list, for buying a truck. A simple thing like the drive wheels being mismatched, is a truck to stay away from. My opinion if you have 3 different drive wheels, what else was he cheap on. I guess a repo truck, would have a lack of maintence also. Maintence is the 1st thing everyone cuts back on, and if your losing your truck, the person is just going to run it, even if it needs repairs. I passed a o/o, he was going 40mph, I tolded him on the radio, your turbo don,t sound right, 30 mi. later I,m getting fuel, and here he comes, I talked to him, he opens the hood. The innercooler hose is off, on the turbo, he says it was repaired , then it fell off. So he,s been driving 3 days, like that. I would,ve repaired it for him, but I was rushed to get into Chicago. I told him get a can of brake guard , to clean the hose up, and buy a hose clamp. He looks at me like, i,m crazy, 10 bucks says that trucks 4-sale now.

NOW I'VE NOTICED on all forums not just this one that every time a driver post a thread asking for advice or encouragement and sometimes even information that there is always one or two drivers jump on him like a dog on a bone ridiculing him and giving all kind of harsh remarks WHY? what does it cost any of to give a kind word , a little encouragement some much needed advice instead of doom and gloom.
a good example is a driver posted a thread about buying his own truck with no credit and was wanting to no how he could do it and i could not believe some of the replies, you can't do it , go to work for a company for two yrs and save your money, sacrifice, do without foe a couple of yrs and a few more, well I'm going to reply to all that and then some .
first i have a question for all of you nay sayers, what does it cost to be nice? i mean it must have a helluva price tag cause nobody seems to want to do it anymore, NUTS.
as far as buying a truck with no credit , o yes you can I've done it more then a few times, can you be an owner operator with no money ? yes by god you can, been there done that it ain't easy but yes you can do it , you never lose till you quit .
now there are more truck drivers out here with bad credit then there is with good credit thats he nature of the beast in this business to many things can happen that have to be taken care of and you get it done the best way you can either that or go out of business if it hurts your credit so what you keep going you can rebuild your credit farther down the line
in the mean time you do the best you can and keep on going , you don't want to lose your truck and your family needs to be fed and taken care of .
this is a hard business and not easy to make it but you can #### sure do it as long as long you don't quit , and you really don't have to have a lot of money to do it, o you might have to get greasy and nasty doing your own work but if your not afraid to work YOU CAN DO IT , just get stubborn and good and pissed and take care of the problem and keep going and you will find after the problem is over and taken care of you get a good feeling because you did it .
now i no that the reason most of you bad mouth a driver that needs some kind of help haven't been out here long enough to no what hard times really is, but i have and i haven't forgot what it feels like or what it feels like to have a strange driver offer help, it feels #### good not to mention you just made another friend.
the reason i started driving a truck was not because i liked trucks hell i couldn't even spell truck but it's the only place i could find to lay my head and you no today that pillow still feels pretty good and I've been out here a few days now and I'm still doing what everyone says just can not be done but in spite of all the woe is me i did it . and looking for more.
you guys that want your own truck you can get one just depends on how bad you want it , you got bad credit ? well that wont stop you just means your going to have to pay a higher interest rate you can Handel that no problem.
now it's tough right now because the banks have got the credit market pretty much locked up but there are much better places to deal with then banks ,i don't deal with them period, there the biggest crooks out here but there are many other places to deal with then banks you just have to look but you can do it just takes a lot of patients and a little determination it can be done.
now a word of caution if your going to use the INTERNET, there are page after page of bad credit lenders use caution most are scams that want money up front, JUST DON'T DO IT no reputable lender will ask for money up front if you do it i promise you they will disappear with your money. but there are bad credit lenders that can and will help you including truck dealers and finance company's you just have to look thats all, never mid woe is me , just go for it if a driver tells you all the ways you can t do it just consider the source he is a truck driver just like you and probably don't no as much as you and if he is preaching woe is mean he does not .
now if you find yourself with a truck and no money well all is not lost if your smart you don't run on your money anyway i sure as hell don't'
all have a great day , ill post more info on that subject in my next post , you really can do it . n southernpride

I have yet to meet a self made millionaire who hasn't been bankrupt at least once. Learn from mistakes and move on. There is way too much Victim mentality in the world. Everything that happens to you both good and bad is an opportunity to learn. Those who embrace this truth and stop blaming others for failures eventually make something of themselves. The naysayers never do.
Good post southernpride. -
not so fast my friend all is not lost in spite of what you hear other drivers tell you.
first it is a lot easier if you have your own trailer and more money BUT if you don't all is still not lost just limits your options and there are a lot of options.
if you just have a tractor well then your going to have to lease it to a company i don't prefer that by any means but it's not all bad .
when you lease to a company IF it is a good company you have no out of pocket expense , they pay for your tag , they pay for all your permits and whatever equipment you need and in some cases your insurance now all this is not free you have to pay it all back but the get if for you and take it out of your settlements a little at a time not all that bad .
now when you lease you don't make as much money but it does get you started and they give you an advance to run on so what else do you need now you got a job for your truck and money in your pocket and a load bout ready to go.
now i don't advocate leasing but it will get you started you can change when ever you want to but a word of caution.
there are a lot of company's out there BUT all of them are not good company's so be cautious when you pick one to go to and don't believe all the hype in particular from a recruiter , rule of thumb if the company can't keep you busy time to go , don't wait till you get two payments down on your truck when a payment comes due and you haven't made enough to make your payment time to go , they can and will repo the truck when you get two payments down don't wait take care of business when the payment is do and you haven't made enough money to make that payment time to go , get the hell out before you get deeper and remember the company just does not care . it's not there truck. don't lose your dream over a company's lies and my friend they all lie period.
and don't worry about breaking there lease regardless of there threats just Tell them to notice the mistletoe on your coat tail when you go threw the door they violated the lease when they couldn't keep you busy enough to pay for your truck, that truck is your business and you don't have to lose it over a trucking company's lies.
a lease is a two way lease both sides have to comply if one docent the they broke the lease and a lot do just that done be afraid to snatch there signs off and go somewhere else after all it is your truck.
and get your own trailer as quick as you can thats in the neighbor hood of 40% more money in your pocket , the trailer makes the money the tractor just cost you money.
one other thing , never haul a load without getting an advance on the load at least 40% of what it pays, why would you give some one you don't no credit i can assure you he wont give you credit if you get and advance if he turns out bad at least you haven't lost as much and you can keep going .
hope this has helped a few of you never listen to anyone that is preaches gloom and doom or one that tells you you cant do something just walk away and do it anyway.
one last thought to remember YOU NEVER LOSE TILL YOU QUIT.
Good luck to all and have a safe ride . southernpride

I bought mine for well under $10,000. Had it looked over and an oil analysis done. It was a high miler but my intention was to upgrade within the next year. That plan worked out except my upgrade happened a few months sooner than what I planned.
