hello im just starting out in trucking but have it in my blood to truck. im just finishing my schooling for my A-Z but im only 18 years old. i live in north bay ontario and the info i am looking for is does anyone know of any companys in or around north bay that will hire younge drivers? my dream is to get in to challenger or laid law my dad worked for both. but they wont hire anyone under 21 for border crosing reasons. now i dont care if i have to drive all over to get to work it doesent even have to be in ontario just in canada. if you know any companys that will hire or that just do canada only that would help alot. iv been looking all over for about a year now and cant seem to find any. oh and i dont care if i have to drive a POS or whatever its only untill i can get in to one of the other companys

I can't see anyone hiring you to drive a tractor trailer at 18 years old. Maybe try and get work driving dump trucks or even a 5 ton somewhere. Pro North is down on Booth road you could try them, try getting a job shunting so you don't lose your driving skills while waiting till you're 21 for someone to hire you. Hope this helps.

Just thinking with my fingers, I don't know all the restrictions in Ca. But have you thought of maybe going to a construction company? I'm not sure, but can you legally drive a combination vehicle in Ontario at 18?

Hurryup gave ya some good suggestions there. -
BigEric, walk your resume over to Manitoulin Transport on Ferris Rd and let them know you want an "entry level" position. You'll start as a grunt and work up from there.
Check out Erb Transport also...again ask for an entry level position. -
thank you guys. iv been looking into pronorth and manitoulin but i heard its exreamly hard to get in to manitoulin? but im going to try. and i was thinking of going to work for a company driing a dump truck or something like that if i cant find anything else till i turn 21. and yes JOHNDAY you can drive a combination vehicle in Ontario at 18. well that what MTO and my school say anyways. like i said to the company doesnt have to be in north bay. thanks again guys

Congrats on getting the AZ licence, I hope the recent Drivetest strike did not affect you. Its too bad that the Logging industry in the North has been decimated. That might have been a good jumping off point for you. Your passion is admirable. I agree with the others up above, find another line of work for the time being, Courier, or maybe shunt. Try down in Sudbury, there are some big companies there running the mines with slurry. I think Day Contruction is one of them, in fact they seem to be all over Sudbury doing even Garbage pickup. Keep trying kid. On a more sour note, you have entered into a industry that is on the decline in regards to wages, truckers are doing more and getting less for it, that is not a good way to go. Good Luck

bigeric, thanks for the comeback on legal age. Good luck to ya, and maintain that attitude. It may take a bit of time for ya, but if you want it bad enough, you'll succeed!
