nope,i was there in 1999..i bought 2 junk tires for my wagon thanks to a hot day and retraps and 1 very adamant State Trooper..as i recall, i paid almost $500.00 for that fiasco..the tiger died, but the cage is still there.

The Walt Whitman is closed! The owners make more money off of sporting event parking than as a truck stop! The ONLY good thing about the WW was they had the BEST Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches around! If you knew the old guy that ran the wash bay you could get anything your little old heart desired! AND sleep! Tell him that you didn't want any 'lovin" and the girls that were allowed on the lot would NOT knock on your door!
You also could sell your pallets there which was good. One of the funniest things about the WW was the working girls were ugly as crap BUT after 2am when the dancing girls got off work and hit the streets around the lot things got to "looking better!" In fact the 'regulars" knew to leave or get hurt by better pimps!
Before all of the receivers in the area went to in house lumpers you had to run the gauntlet of the lumpers on the street corners! I've seen those guys get into fist fights over who got what truck as back then they knew which company had what on them! In fact I had one guy who became "MY" guy when I had a load of meat to deliver! He would see my truck at the WW and come up and wake me when it was time to check in!
AHH the old days! How memories come and go!

good luck on this endevor as most of the "colorful" places are long gone
Now go out to west Memphis and see what's going on there as all 4 of the truck stops have their problems with working girls and of course the cop that's on the CB trying to sell all kinds of drugs. Yes it's a cop as you can call 911 and report the guy and nothing ever happens!
Then there is ALL OF WEST Oklahoma City, OK! That is a den of nastyness with all of the women there and yep Tulsa also! I guess Oklahoma has a bad employment problem wirh women as both of those towns have more working girls than any other town you can drive through with a CB on!

Jesup MD TA has cleaned it's act up except for Rappahanock and Oceano Streets just down from the TA where all the warehouses are and the girls walking the streets there!

Just go look at http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ck-stops-here/24173-worst-truckstop-ever.html and you'll find a few names in that thread!

"Rubes" as you call it is in New Jersey--it is on truck 1&9--and it isn't called RUBES--Never has been and Rube has been dead for years--I'll give you a hint--It isn't Tullo's--that should narrow it down!
