Hi guys, my dad is/was an owner operator working for his own company untill his truck (Volvo) broke down last week :biggrin_25513:. The mechanic said it will cost about 12-13k to fix it. He does not know what to do as he does not have 13k to put into the truck that might break again tomorrow. I am trying to help him out and trying to see if the best option would be to quit doing this on his own and just find a job at the local company? He has about 8 years OTR experience with no tickets or accidents. He would like to do something locally where he does not have to travel around 48 states and be home once a month. Is this realistic to find a job locally that will pay him at least 50k per year with his experience? Which companies should he look at? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have 35 yrs experience, 16 as O/O with 1-6 trucks on the road, & was looking in the Orlando area for a decent company driving job. 50K a year is not in the realm of possibility for local drivers.
Maybe union drivers make that much, but it takes years to get to that level.
I knew a guy years ago with trucks & contracts to bring oversized eqpt into FL for road work & construction. He wanted me to put some trucks on with him, but I wasn't sure my drivers could handle it.
His trucks made really good money at that time, & his drivers didn't complaiin at all.
That might be avenue to explore if he has experience in heavy haul.
