GOOD MOURNING DAN: now your showing good judgment when you worry about carrying a fire arm in a truck, a lot of us do including me and i don't have a permit but if you get caught in a state that does not like guns it is expensive. i got arrested in white plains new York and it cost me 10 days in jail and 10000 bucks the cop stop me and searched my truck and found the gun, now part of it was my fault i have never been afraid of a cop i left him handcuffed to his car and went on my way NOT GOOD THING TO DO io days later i got out of jail and i thought they were going to shoot me , haven't been to new York sense and that was 40 yrs ago and i ain't going back.
each state is different and the only way to be sure is call the state BEFORE YOU GO INTO THE STATE. regardless of what the courts say each state has the right to govern themselves and they do the east coast is by far the worse.and contrary to popular belief they do have the right to search your truck if they have cause and cause can be about anything and to argue with a cop at roadside only makes it worse and he will still search your truck it's not a car and different laws apply.

private property well it means just that private property they can say no to guns such as walmart you can't carry on there property i don't agree and i don't like it but that is the way it is and i don't shop at wal mart period.

as far as a company well the law says it is there company and there equipment and they have the right not to allow it and not much you can do about it except get a different job.

i run west now and most western states could care less as long as your not being stupid with the gun they don't care but they don't want to see it .

the supreme court thankfully has made it easier but it is still not a good thing in some places and when in doubt always call the state your going in first if they say no leave the weapon in a safety deposit box if you can better to be safe then sorry it can be expensive and could involve jail time .

hope this has helped some , good luck my friend, happy trails. southernpride :biggrin_25514:

I am going to copy a letter from a web site that you all might find interesting, there policy is no different than many other National Retailers. I will also post the link so you can go look at this letter any many other sent to and responded to By Wal-Mart Corp.

I've written Wal-Mart Corporate several times concerning concealed weapon carry in their china-outlet stores, and each time received a slightly different reply that always featured one important thing. It is not their policy to prohibit firearms. Never was. Back in the bad old days when only a few states offered CCW, they'd hem and haw, try to pawn any such prohibition off on an individual manager, but eventually cave and instruct the store to take down any signage that restricted a citizen from exercising his or her 2nd Amendment rights. In Florida, a company may of course post any sign it wishes to, but they bear no legal weight whatsoever. This doesn't stop certain unscrupulous hitler-wannabes from trying to impress the Eloi, but Wal-Mart in particular has this to say about that, and I hope the following...received this day from the boobs of bentonville... sheds some light on the subject, even for those unfortunates who happen to abide in a state that sanctions discrimination:

"Thank you for contacting Wal-Mart regarding our concealed handgun policy. Wal-Mart was founded by Sam Walton on three basic principles. Strive for Excellance, Service to our Customers, and Respect for the Individual. It is that respect for the individual that led us to create the current policy pertaining to concealed handguns.

The following is our policy......If a Wal-Mart customer has been awarded a concealed handgun license by the state government, Wal-Mart will follow the direction of the state. However, if at anytime while on Wal-Mart property, that customer's concealed weapon becomes visible to Wal-Mart associates or customers, Wal-Mart reserves the right to ask the customer to either reposition the weapon so that it will not be visible, to remove the weapon completely or to leave Wal-Mart property, With the exception of law enforcement personnel, Wal-Mart does not allow any exposed weapons to be worn or carried in public view on Wal-Mart property or in Wal-Mart stores. Customers other than law enforcement personnel wearing or carrying a weapon in an exposed manner will be asked to leave the property immediately."

And For the Record in Most States with "Right to Carry" there are Laws on the books that allow for any Business Owner to Place Proper Signage stating "No Concealed Carry" This is the right of Business owners just as much as it is the right of the Concealed Gun Owner.

And for the Record I am a Card Carrying NRA Member, and I am all for the 2nd Amendment.

My safety director and I were discussing weapons on board a few months ago. We both agreed that if we were to carry a weapon, we would not let anyone know we had it. We left it at that. :biggrin_25525:

I too run Il. & Wi. a lot. The new state law (thanks to Daley & Quin) says that if you have a loaded weapon, uncased and within reach, the penalty is one to three years without parole. :biggrin_25513:

I firmly agree that you should only be pulling your weapon if you intend to use it. Only a fool flashes his (or her) weapon. :smt071

There is a Federal law that protects you carrying a weapon in a prohibited area. You can read it at handgunlaw.us. :Cow wagon:

In NM you are allowed to carry a loaded firearm in any vehicle commercial or non, and it doesn't matter if you live in the state or not. Oregon is the same way.

you are 110% correct sir..life can be tough on the big road, but i have found that for the most part if you stay away from trouble you usually wont find it..in the day, i avoided rest areas and truck stops most of the time..i kept a memory note of warehouses and large lighted parking lots..thats where i liked to camp out..it takes a while to get this map in your head, but you can always ask where warehouses are in any city, you'll get a few wise guy cracks but you will end up with a safe place..if anyone asks, its where you are supposed to pick up in the morning, stay away from delivering there, that requires bol's. havagudn..shakey1946

I can't believe there are so many drivers that think using a screwdriver or tire knocker, or even your triangles to protect your self is satisfactory. What about those cases where the driver was killed by thugs breaking in to there truck. Would a handgun have kept them alive in those situations, probably. To the poster that says he always parks near wherehouse buildings is very ignorant about his world around him. Those places are far more dangerous then a truck stop or rest area, why because there quite and little traffic, what a dummy. Go park at a secluded whse in Memphis, New York or parts of LA and tell me you slept just fine that night. It is possable to get a carry permit that's recognized in at least 30 states, carring a gun in the truck is a state issue not a federal one.

There is no one permit that will allow you to carry a concealed weapon in all of the states. Some states will honor another states permit but they are few. Some states say you must live in that state to carry. Just about all of them require that you take a course in that state. Most all of the requirements state you must check every town, city, and county that you travel through. Some states have a different definition for concealed weapons. Just having the weapon in the truck can meet the concealed weapon definition in some places.

I know there are large fines and possible jail time if you don't have the
proper permit. Just because someone says it's ok you're asking for big trouble. If you decide that you need a gun I would highly suggust that you look up every state you'll be traveling through to find the requirements. At least call the state and ask. Then go to the city, town, and county level. There is just too big of a risk to do something like this blind. Just because your state makes it easy to carry a weapon doesn't mean you can do it in other states. California will nail you big time and you'll do some jail time too.

My point here is please check (and if were me I'd call too) every place your truck is going to travel through. Be prepared to clear yourself if you're involved in an accident and they find the weapon.

Personally I think it's stupid to carry a gun in the first place. I'm sure most companies will say they don't allow it for insurance reasons. I just haven't seen a need for one and I've been driving since 1978. Sure there's times I'd like to shoot some tires out but I never would. Then if you do shoot someone you better be sure when you used deadly force it was used properly. Which I doubt the general gun owner knows anything about.

I would have to say it just hasnt happened to you two yet. In 15 years on the road Ive been robbed once and attempted to rob me twice. The first time I was young and stupid. I got conned by a gypsy to "come here you gotta see this, this ol boy doesnt know his card is bent" Well I didnt care to play once I seen what was goin on so a couple of them slammed me up against a trailer while another held a knife to my throat and searched my pockets. The second attempt wasnt my fault,it was broad daylight out in full view at the Pilot in Effingham. The thirf time was also broad daylight in full view on the Muskogee turnpike. The last two incidents were in the past two years. Both times I was fortunate to have easy acess to my load bar which makes a good deterant until I meet a crook with a gun or someone jacked up on meth who just doesnt give a sh**.

You can get in a truck and be sent to some of the most God forsaken places. The truck is your home but you are not allowed to defend it? Uhmm what is wrong with that picture... the sitting duck theory!
