Sorry if this is long. First, I drive a five state area for work. Sadly I drove a Honda Civic. Anyway, these people driving these BIG trucks are the most skilled drivers I have ever seen. These people know how to drive and use signals and follow the laws. I use to really hate driving near them, but know I know I am far safer driving near them then in my own neighborhood.
So, about two years ago we were driving our daughter to her first year of college. Eleven hour drive. Four hours in the weather is bad and the interstate is flooded. So we pull into a truck stop and the only people that could help us drive around the water were truckers.
So, thanks to you all. This weekend we make the drive again. Usually four to six trips a year. The only thing I worry about now is the other people like us, you know, the ones not in trucks.
Thanks to truckers

Hello, Ian and Welcome to the Site
-
Welcome Ian.

ian, happy to hear you have such high regards for truckers but please b careful around them, everyone makes mistakes, i know i have, i used to b a non forgiving hothead but i have since calmed down in the past 25 years i have been driving, if you do run upon a knucklehead who dares not to move over or just downright drives stupid, remember we all make mistakes and lets not judge everyone, please don't cruise along side of a truck, he may b sound asleep, i know i have done this and have driven at least 100 to 200 miles down the road asleep, i must say i have been extremely lucky, not that i have been driving to long or anything illegal, it just happens, what i'm trying to say is trust yourself and noone else. i have never hit another car or truck in 25 years, wished i could say the same for a stop sign or 2, but anyway if not for the others paying attention i may have had an accident, have fun on your run and take care

I don't mind car following, however please keep back to where you can see both our mirrors, things happen with trucks that may not be as common to a car, like throwing cap's (tire tread) more common in summer than winter but it happens, this is a 50 to 100 lb piece of the tire that has steel cords on the back and it will take a car right out, please just kind of hang back. Same thing distance I have my wife if shes following me. Also gives you time to react to something I may straddle that your car won't go over. Please do not use your high beams in our mirrors.
Anyhow welcome on board, please step to the empty seat, and enjoy the ride. -
also, try not to pass a truck on the right even if the lane is clear. pass on the left. Its hard to see a car coming up on the right side, especially if its raining.
