Fedex is the same and I went through the same thing when I applied but my friend said it the best they wouldn't call u if they didn't want to hire u and I know its a waiting thing because they don't call u to keep u updated , but if they want something from u like more info but its true and safety is the last step.

They must be hiring like crazy right now. My info got sent to safety three weeks ago. Ran into one of my former employers and they said he hadn't talked to Fedex at all. Hopefully hear something soon. Hoping to see what it's like to work in this sweltering heat. How did the training go Ron?

Just got the call from Fedex. I start in 11 hours at 2 am. This should be fun. Big Ron you are right about them feeding you good. When I worked for Fedex Express we were eating steak almost every night and I know that we went out two nights for lobster. We were in hog heaven.

For those of you looking into working at freight here is the inside scoop: If you are going through the hiring process do not expect your typical hiring process of the OTR companies. It takes on AVG about 6 weeks from once you have been contacted by them stating they are interested until you are actually hired. Once you are brought in for a drug test and driving test they have pretty much made up there mind and you will be hired. I have yet to hear of anyone who was called in for a driving test not be hired. They do ALL their homework before this will happen.

As a new driver you will obviously start at the bottom. No way to sugar coat it, the bottom sucks!! You will spend more time working the dock then you will behind the wheel of a truck. It sucks, but its good pay and great benifits. depending on what center you hire into it takes an avg of about 7-10 years before you will get a good solid 500-600mi run. The hub that I run to every night (which is a short haul from our center) has about 15 drivers who do nothing but work the dock from 11p-7am. They took these jobs knowing they are atleast 2 years from getting on the board for a road run!! why anyone would take such a job is beyond me!! I guess they just wanted off the OTR jobs..
If and when you get a solid run ( Bid) then you have it made. We have drivers that are pulling down 85k per year! but it took them a long time to get there.

Its a solid job, with solid benifits. But understand that for your first few years you will be working the dock more then you will be driving a truck. For those of you who dont have doubles experience dont worry you will get training. Mine was OJT but it really doesnt take much to figure it out.

I have been with freight about 4 mo and I really do like my job. There are alot of things I dont like but over all Im happy to be home every day, I have good medical, and when we are busy my checks are pretty good. In 4 months I have been told to sit home 6 nights, and sent home early I dono how many times. Thats another thing about the bottom, you never know what your check is going to be from one week to the next..
