One thing to watch for is if you screw the stop bolt in to far it will make contact with the back of the hub or wheel seal. That stop bolt will tear things up.

Agreed, apologize for my part, and will stand down on the off subject stuff.
CatNip;
If you, or anyone else wants to rail against T8s, Sara Palin, or myself, howse about we start another thread, eh?
Good Day all -

THEY AINT TOO BAD IF YOU PUT OUTSIDE AIR CLEANERS & SIDE MOUNTED 8'' CHIMNEYS, 14'' DROP VISOR & 24'' FULL WRAP AROUND BUMPER ON EM'!!! LOL!!!!
FriedTater and droy Thank this. -
What's wrong with Sarah Palin?
Not bad looking, IMHO, intelligent, long wb, probably has a nice ride.......
Apparently you would prefer I quote Nobama, or Biden?
Excuse me while I go puke......[/QUOTE]
I'm no Leftwinger... And I agree that Palin is good lookin but that's it. I have heard a lot of her speeches and interviews and she's not very brite. Even after they tutored the s*** out of her at election time she still came off as an idiot. If Katy Couric can make you look bad with softball questions that says it all. -
The best thing KW ever did was introduce the W900B models! They finally got some real leg room and head room in the cab...Peterbilt was never bright enough to do that and their cabs are still cramped and uncomfortable unless you're a midget.
I don't think there's a truck on the road that even comes close to the looks of a W900L, Next to a W900L a Pete looks average at best.
The W900 is a better truck overall but the Petes are the most popular...Mostly because of the "Class" advertising campaign that was pure marketing genius in my opinion.
Once again...I would disagree absolutely.
Although the short hood W900B is not to my liking, The W900L has the finest lines of any truck on the road and is far more comfortable on the inside than the best spec'ed Pete out there.
It might be the other way around if you know your PACCAR history.
PACCAR was KW long before they bought out Peterbilt and KW always has and always will be the flagship brand at PACCAR.
Mine weighs 31,600 with my 48' spread axle flat, Headache rack with 15 chains and binders, 25 straps, 4 ratchet straps, 200 gallons of fuel, all of my personal crap, 6 sets of coil racks, my ladder, 6 4X4X8 dunnage, and all of my tarps and skirts.
There's really not that much of a weight difference between the studio sleeper and the 72" sleeper...Not even 1000 pounds and the 72" sleeper is still bigger and roomier than the biggest sleeper you can get on a Pete.
My W9 turns pretty sharp and I have yet to find a place that I had trouble getting into with it.
My KW's a 2000 model and my friend has a 2008 Peterbilt with all the bells and whistles that you can order. A while back he called me when I was in the yard and asked if I could take his truck and go pick up his trailer at a customer.
My wife went with me and said she wanted to see how nice a new Peterbilt was.
We got about 5 miles down the road and she turned to me and said, "Do they offer a better interior?" I said "No, This is the highest upholstry level you can get." She said "It's too small and it reminds me of a cheap pickup truck." I said "Me too."
All she said after that was...I hope you don't ever buy one of these because I hate it!"
I agree...
I have always been a KW guy but I used to be able to understand the Peterbilt phenomenon...I no longer get it.
This company that supposedly builds "Premium Class 8 Trucks" still has their clutch pedal poking up through a hole in the floor like a 1940's pickup truck...Nothing premium about that!
Newer Petes since around 2006 have the sorriest looking interiors they have put in a truck in YEARS!
It looks like a stinkin' Freightliner inside (Maybe not even that nice) The old interiors were cramped and uncomfortable just like the newer ones but at least they looked nice! These new ones are just...Plain!bigkw, FriedTater, kwswan and 1 other person Thank this. -
My old truck was a 98 W900 with a I think 76" sleeper. My newer truck is a 05 379 with a 120" sleeper. I pull the same trailer with both and can scale just a bit more with the Pete.
That KW hood was heavy. -

yea that old KW was heavy. they didnt build them the way do today....to me a Pete is a light built truck. they dont seem to have the same frame, they have a smaller cab and sleeper. and i agree...whats with the clutch peddle??? y does it still go through the floor like the old 40s pickups????? -
So....You say that a Pete with a 120" sleeper is lighter similarly equipped that a W900?
Maybe if you left the engine and transmission out of the Pete.
Sorry dude but I've been doing research on a large sleeper for my truck and I know what that setup weighs and I know the weight differences between KW's and Pete's and it's not much with the Pete's sometimes coming out on the heavier side and you're just not telling the truth.
The KW fiberglass hood weighs about 400 pounds...How much does that added sleeper, frame, driveline and all the related components weigh?
That's like trying to answer the Harley vs. other bikes question...Last edited: Aug 6, 2010
FriedTater Thanks this. -
at least you can buy a truck with ''cult'',''cool'' and ''classic'' pedal ,even if interior sucks and the cab was copied from a doghouse, respecting the original dimensions

When you have an piterbilt your coolness and cultness raise in geometric progresion
