As a 22yr veteran of the trailer trucking world, I have yet to encounter bulk haulers around a truck stop long enough to talk to. Can anyone educate me on the in's and outs and just exactly what is needed in the regards of setting up a truck,,blowers, gear boxes,,ect?![]()

Are you talking about "Powder Trains", as we call them on the West Coast? 2 trailers that haul powder cement or sandy material? Or, are you talking about Grain type trailers so common in the midwest?
-
I suppose I could have been more explicit,,sorry,,I am referring to hauling sand, silica,,that type of freight,,,,
-
"Pneumatic dry bulk tankers" ?
aka... powder trains, powder wagons or the AQMD's worst nightmare?
yeah I think we're on the same page.

The setting up of the tractor is pretty simple, you will need a PTO (power take off) a drive line for it and a blower. The rest pretty well stays with the trailer. I think a new blower is going to be around the $3000 range. I prefer Tuthills but a Garner Denver is what I am using now for a blower and it works well enough but the Tuthill has two valves in is rather than the one GD has in theirs.
Wear hearing protection or you will get tinnitus and have your ears ringing off the wall every time you try to sleep. It gets pretty loud.
I will try to answer any questions you have. -

My Garner Denver does not have any valves in it at all, it use a vane. Its a super charger type compressor. What are you talking about with the valves, unless your talking about the heavy sludge compressor the vac guys use.
-
It may be the vane, but I am working with a company that would run a 1969 unit if it would still work! But I am going by what our local supplier Curley and Sears said about the difference between the Tuthill and GD. And these are blowers not compressors.Last edited: Aug 1, 2010
