I can remember back in the 60's my dad would complain that he was being discriminated against because he had a family. Many companies of that era knew this job wasn't for a family man and hired accordingly.Of course there was no talk of pseudo driver shortages then, all jobs required experience, and driving schools were hard to find especially in the central part of the country.
I'm done.

I applaud you for being honest with yourself and realizing it wasn't for you. Also for having the courage to walk away and have to find something else in "this" current economy.

I have to say I'm also a bit jealous as I've yet to find a company that will hire me and I have no family or home to worry about anymore so life on the road is just fine with me.
Anyway, I wish you the very best on whatever road you travel from here. God Bless!!

I was thinking the same thing!
Its refreshing to see someone take responsibility for his decisions!
Its good to see that you were able to realize that Trucking was not for you early, I wish you all the best in finding a new path that is more suitable for you!

I'm so happy that you've found something that you will enjoy and that you're not leaving the Trucker's Report.
Best wishes for a wonderful future with your new job! -
Chumley, I'm just curious. What was it about trucking that WASN'T what you had expected? And, are you the same Chumley on the reality show "Pawn Stars" on the History Channel?
-
The biggest thing I guess was the fact that I expected a job, not a whole lifestyle change. It was poor planning on my part, I was going to tough it out for awhile and move to something better, the same plan most new drivers have. I realized after less than 8 months that it wouldn't matter where I worked, I was not a trucker. This is also not a job, you change most things in your life and I didn't want to. It never "got in my blood", or whatever. I underestimated it, I went into it for a paycheck but there is so much more to it that. There were a lot of things that helped make my decision, but the biggest one was that it was more than a job, more than I wanted. Every trucker I talked to said "You should be home with your wife and kids, if I could go back I would have never got into trucking". I started weighing the importance of my life, family vs. job, otr vs. home, etc. I decided it was too big a change for me to halfheartedly make, with the doubts I had anyway.
I think the pawn star is chumlee, regardless, we are 2 different people. Thanks for the posts.rayodeluz, Spacecoast and ragtopjr Thank this. -
