I would surely think so. I mean it's not like becoming a hooker or crime lord.

After 20 years as an Intensive Care Nurse, in every field from Trauma to Neonates, I don't think spending time driving will lower my IQ. I still work part time in the NICU, and it is a nice break from dealing with 4-wheelers.
andrew5184 and Texas-Nana Thank this. -

I would hope they could see it as being talented enough to be flexible in other highly skilled professions.
Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
Some employers look at previous jobs in different fields as a possible "red flag" that you will leave them and move on down the road.

I might be in a 'special situation', but truck driving will probably add to my mechanical engineering resume. But at my age, I don't think I am going to worry about it. After trucking, I do not plan to work for anyone but myself and the wife.

When it comes to doing a resume, and you've switched fields for a time, and are now switching back, make it a functional resume. List your talents and skills, and highlight the time that you WERE in that field. There is no reason for you to use a chronological resume, especially if it doesn't suit your purpose or need.
Big Don, andrew5184 and KittyKat501 Thank this. -

There is no reason why a person should not "take a break" from one field of endeavor for a bit.
The reason for the resume is to get your foot in the door for an interview. A lot can be explained during the interview, and your time away from the field will not count nearly as much as how you interview does.andrew5184 Thanks this.
