I strongly suggest going with either Central Refrigerated, Stevens Transport, Watkins Shepard, or Swift.. CRST is not that great at all... I even heard Prime and USA Truck was ok. But do your research. Dont just listen to the people complaining that are "newbies" or have less than a year. If you are looking to start with a company... find a forum with company drivers from that company and ask them how they like it where they are.

MAKE SURE IF YOU GO TO CRST, YOU HAVE HAD YOUR LICENSES FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS. DON'T LET THEM TALK YOU INTO GOING OTHERWISE, OR YOU'LL GET STUCK PAYING FOR THE SCHOOL WITHOUT EVEN OBTAINING YOUR CDL.

It was really difficult when I got there, because I seen a few things that appeared to be a scam. Part of the requirement to even attend the CRST school was to be able to have your licenses for 3 years. I seen a few guys that were hired with 2 years, and were allowed to go to school, but on the day of the road test, they were sent home. So, they get stuck with the $3,000 dollar tuition and get nothing out of it. VERY VERY SAD.

just got ogg the phone with CRST i spoke to a guy named matt. im hesitant on them bc they only want 8 months and they say they dont take ANY money out of pay deductions if you stay with them for 8 months. the only money they said they take was the hotel if i understood correctly. i mean dont get me wrong 8 month obligation doesn't seem bad to me. but having them sponsor me then firing me for a hiccup and saying now you owe us the money well thats a different story. im having sooooo much trouble finding a company to start with. they arent all perfect but i want the one that is closest to it. any thoughts?

Of all the bad things about this company, this isn't one of them. I started with CRST. That is correct, they do not take the money out of your pay. I had a hiccup with them, I bumped a telephone pole making a right turn I shouldn't have made while lost. They just had me sit through a safety class and pay them $150 for it, and had me road test again which was easy then sent me on my way.

Its a good company to get experience with, but I'm not down for team driving with a stranger.

Well,,, I started with CRST... I got my CDL through them. But I can tell you I really wish I had went somewhere else to get it and to drive for. I owe them for the contract still. I think it was like $5000. I am not going to complain or anything but, I strongly recommend going with another company. Look into Stevens Transportation, Central Refrigerated, Knight has a CDL training program. I dont know whats up with Swift though. But I drove for Central Refrigerated and I have to say that was a awesome company. The training while in the school is very strict. Its a fast-track school. If you are not catching on and just cant get the idea how to drive a rig they boot you out. But.. its a very very good company. Right now Im headed for Training with Stevens Transport. They also will pay for all your cost to get there and put you through school and give you the job once you complete.. But remember, you MUST be honest with your application and any criminal stuff. You dont want to be stuck somewhere trying to find a way home because you screwed up on your application. And just remember also, yeah the guys in truck school with you may be cool to talk to but wory about yourself first. I do not recommend CRST.. the team driving sucked. I almost died from one co-driver that never slept. So do your research on those 2 companies I listed and you might feel a little bit better...

Yes and that was a bit confusing first i spoke to them and they asked me where i was from and i said Florida and they said ok fill out the app and then get back to us then when i called them back they said they are not hiring out of Florida. im thinking does anyone know whats going on there so i thanked her and hung up. i was thinking of calling back and making sure.

I am looking at CRST obviously, and i am trying with Stevens as well. while i have heard the good and bad about every company i have looked at im figuring go in drive shut up and gain the experience.
