Hey i'm new to this forum, I get on here all the time and read what truckers have to say about everyday life, and im gratefull for the advice on this forum. I am leaving for training with crst on august 23rd and was just wondering about how long I will be away from home once I leave to go down there? Plus I was wondering if anyone else has been lately about how much money they brought with them to make it through the training, orientation and whatever else I will have to stay for. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Boro....do yourself and your trainer a huge favor and bring just as little as you can to get by on...depending on whether you take your pto(paid time off) half way through your training or go all 6-8 weeks straight...your training is in the summer so a few pairs of shorts, a few pairs of socks, underwear, tennis shoes, flip flops, hygiene stuff, a few tshirts, a few polo shirts, a sweatshirt, maybe a windbreaker...after this just a bare minimum of things...your trainer will appreciate it and you will too...you can figure about $20 a day for food(drink lots of water)....if you get a good trainer he will treat you to a meal at least a day (you are making him a bucket of money, so he should)...they will be paying you at least $300 a week i would think.Hope this helps...Terry

o-m=g i feel sorry for you ,i did my time with crst as a o/o it lasted less than three months due to rates were down, they didnt have the loads ,you end up in areas that used to have a ton of frieght and are sucking hot water now, but everyone must learn, but it might be differnt for you????who knows but i dont think things have changed much in almost a year, i wish you the best of luck

Boro....I have heard from a number of drivers in the year I have been out here alot of good things about CRST.....depending on who you talk to about any of the larger companies you will hear many different things....just get at least 6 months in and if you arent happy start looking at other opportunites...one thing is for sure....you have to get a year experience in it seems for most other opps...but you have to start somewhere....just try and get by....get yourself a good thermoelectric cooler(the kind that plugs into your lighter) and buy groceries at walmarts....you can get in with a truck to most of them to shop...if your truck has an APU unit you can make coffee, have a George Foreman grill, and a small pot that will heat on your George Foreman and save alot of mopney that way...anyway...a little more advice...Terry
