Run the fiures before leasing and get all your facts, in writing if possible!
Seems nobody is good for their word anymore.
Also they don't know what the future will bring them or you!

Here's what Perkins Specialized offered me.

With an average of 2500 miles per week, 2500 x $0.94 = $2350.00 Income before taxes and deductions Could be Less! Fuel Surcharge?
    with fuel at $3.00 and 5 miles per gal = $0.60/mile = -1500.00 a week
    Balance $850.00
    2005 = 7 to 8 yrs old when paid Tractor Payment 325.00 minimum payment / week = $42,250.00 payoff!
    Balance $525.00
Probable Tractor Insurance 50.00 per week (estimate)
    Balance $475.00
    Maintenance Fund 2500 x $0.08 cents mile = 200.00
    Balance $275.00
Fuel Tax 35.00 for 52 weeks ( Included in fuel purchase?)
    Balance $240.00
Occ Acc Insurance 37.50 for 52 weeks
    Balance $202.50
    Satellite 18.00 for 52 weeks (usually $18.00 / mth)
    Balance $184.50
Trip Pak 7.00 for 52 weeks
    Balance $177.50
Hwy Use Tax 11.20 for 52 weeks ????????
    Balance $166.30
Deductible Buyback Ins. 13.50 for 52 weeks (Pay them to take back, Truck not valued at cost?)
    Balance $152.80
    Base Plate 43.00 for 52 weeks = $2236.00 ? (only $1,200.00)
    Balance $108.20
Central Business Service 25.00 for 52 weeks (optional) To process their bills?
    Balance $83.20
    Escrow 100.00 for 25 weeks ($2,500.00?, Avg. $1000)
    Balance $-16.80 out of pocket
Food & Misc Road Exp. 150.00 per week
Balance $-166.80 Cost for at least 25 weeks (6 to 7 months) !
No money for taxes ! No Life or Health Ins., No retirement, Nothing left for bills !

It is easy to get into a hole right from the start. No out of pocket expense? Right! And I'm suppose to believe it ? HaHa !

did you point this out to them?
sure hope you didnt take the lease
i am currently trying to find out anything i can about leasing--it seems to be the happy medium inbetween totally owning your own and being company--but only if it is done right---i am sure that there must be some good leases

that right there is the flaw in your logic

companies save tens of thusands of dollars per year on each driver they can turn into a contractor. that is the one and only reason they do this, not to help you out

one the RARE occasion you may find some small company who will d it with their old raged out trucks in order to make more money off them then trading them off.

Oh yea, I sent that exact thing to them! Wondering why such crap and they haven't got back to me. Of course, don't expect them to either, they can't rip me off! Been O/O for 7 yrs. Can't believe they want to charge all this to the leasee. Especially the $35 a week fuel tax extra, when it is included in the fuel purchases! I also asked about refunds for the over payments. Haven't heard from them again! Of course they say they'll get me 4000 miles a week, but I don't believe that either. Can't count your chickens before they hatch ! :biggrin_25523:

If you are wanting to own your own truck, own the company too. Get your own authority and get your own loads. Even broker loads will be OK. But don't lease a truck from a company and them own you! You'd be better of just driving for them. That way you will have unemployment to fall back on, if nothing else. The companies lease you on so they don't have to pay taxes on you, unemployment, insurance or retirement. The monkey falls on your back and when you can't make it, they just put another sucker behind the wheel !!!!!!!!!!
