Lady Liberty in the harbor means about as much to the Mexicans as it does to anyone else of this generation. Sad hard truth. The generations that the Liberty statue meant something to are pretty much going or gone.
I agree. We have some #### good American workers, but this generation, the gimme generation wants it handed to them. It seems they are adverse to good hard labor. For the most part, they've had everything handed to them that they demanded.
I could write a book on your last comment, but now, I won't because I'm wore out from another 1000 mile day.
For now though, we have an excellent conversation going here that might open your eyes.rlmichael09 Thanks this. -
I could give you many reasons, but the simplest one is, because I can and I enjoy it, along with more than 500,000 other Americans who have chosen to live here. It's where I'll retire eventually because for one thing, I will actually be able to LIVE on my social security payments with help from my 401k.
Deonunced my citizenship? Why would I want to do something as incredibly stupid as that?
Down here, there is still respect amongst the neighbors. A respect for privacy and property. Hell, a neighbor will not enter the property to knock on the door, instead, they'll stand at the gate and tap on the bars until someone hears them and answers.
We don't worry about our kids, my step kids, going to school and getting beaten or murdered by one of their classmates. My wife and kids can walk to the corner store after dark without worrying about being accosted.
My 17 year old step daughter can go to school, leaving the house at 0530 in the morning, and taking three city buses to her high school/pre university classes on the other side of town without worrying about being raped, molested or worse.
What you read in the paper about Mexico is sensationalized by the media into something I don't even recognize about the country. I have flown from Monterrey to Cd Juarez in the past year, spent several days there with friends and flown back to MTY without problem.
I just returned from a week off work which I drove my new Jeep Wrangler from Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey and returned via Reynosa without any problems.
In a nutshell, a person is probably safer in Mexico than in some of America's cities. -
hmmmm......so, you are working to help the border situation?
I too have had a long day. Prez in Austin, 5 car accident in Dallas. I left San Antonio (visited the Alamo after offloading) at 09:00. and reached Oklahomo state line 19:45.
It has been a good conversation. Maybe it will open many eyes. You live in Mexico and are seeing first hand from a different perspective than most Americans ever will. I like where this is going. I think. -
Then WHY do they want to come here???
-
Thanks. Unfortunately, most don't care for my perspective because it goes contrary to what they've been led to believe.
What people don't realize or choose to ignore, Mexico is a conservative Catholic country with the values that go with it. Family values, a firm moral standard but not so much so that common sense can't prevail.
The anti immigration factor in this country, the so called "Patriots for Profit" go about scaring the hell out of people with outlandish claims. And as they saying goes, "If it is repeated enough, there must be some truth to it." Sometimes, but oftentime not.
Hell, I forgot about the Prez being in Austin today. I was through there this morning about 0730 so I guess I got lucky.
Spending the night in Laredo tonight before loading tomorrow for Houston and Miami. -
Work my friend, work!
Over the past 60-70 years, we had cyclical immigration. They came, they worked, they returned home for holidays, Christmas and Easter, and if they didn't return, someone else came to take their places.
They supported their families back in Mexico, most being from poorer villages in the southern part of the country. They met their goals, be it saving for a house, or to start a business in Mexico, then they went home and stayed. It was cyclical.
Then came 9/11. The terrorists came into the country legally and overstayed their visas. They didn't come in through Mexico, put through our international airports.
If you'll think back, we didn't have all this brouhaha about Mexicans and immigration before 9/11.
But people have profited, both financially and politically
The Puppeteer is another good read to broaden your horizons and perhaps understand more of what is the real problem in this country.
This is the agenda of one man and his small group to turn public opinion against immigrants, both legal and illegal. Read it and you'll see that what is happening today, is outlined in this article and happening exactly as written.
What is interesting is that this synopsis and the meetings recounted in the article, occurred in the late 1970's. -
Yha, traffic was rediculous today.
Narrow minds, are the worst.
I admire their family values, and religious devotion. I haven't ever had any probs with anyone from Mexico myself, infact. Have gotten along very well with them. I used to manage at risk properties in Tucson (12 yrs) prior to truckin. Those I have known have been very good to me. Wish I could say the same about some of my own people here, lol.
I was the voice of JQ Public tonight. I think, I may continue to do so. We have brought out some very good issues. Interesting. And I will check out that link. Thank you.
KS to NY for me. Have a safe run and we will continue this convers later. got to get some sleep. -
Could be that Mexican's are so starved by their government they're willing to work for less than half of what an American worker would get paid....And they have no consciences in doing so....Feeding the family is more important I would suppose....
One thing I can say about most of the Mexican kids I know....they all can name every Aztec king......You can't get kids in the US to name the POTUS before Clinton....Well due in part to our Liberal/Socialist educational system...rlmichael09 and Red Fox Thank this. -
Unless you live in Mexico city or similar, I'm told by my mexican friends that you are either rich or poor - no middle class because of the gov't, corruption, class labor and so forth. While I agree mostly with Mexico Trucker, I believe even HIS views may be a bit biased, being forced to take a stand in their defense.
We still cannot deny that there are loads of undesirable criminal elements coming up, and by the sheer mass of numbers, working for less, the influx takes a toll on the economy of our related businesses, construction being my personal concern. Eventually, you can't even afford to hire Americans (cost more, do less) and still compete with the contractors who hire latinos. The same thing is happening here in Atlanta that happened from Cally to Texas. White carpenter can't get a job, etc.
They need a revolution, in a country that has been riddled with "revolutions" and the concurrent dictatorships that followed. I don't see a solution for them. You have either staunch Catholics or criminals - they even lack the general semi-moral masses that make up armies here. The Catholics don't war well, and the criminals you don't want in office; they already HAVE that now.
If you or I were a working class or can't-find-a-job class from Mexico, you'd be right here doing exactly what they're doing; trying to fend for the family. Our problem is that they no longer want to raise a stake and go home; they want to stay here, en masse. And yes, they could give a diddly #### about American history, the same as you'd give a hoot about their prior Kings if you moved there. You'd want to still be American, and just take advantage of a better living situation.
Same as Mexico Trucker, I think.
