rules???

i am just looking for somebody wgo has some knowledge in the are of cabbotage
i am a canadian citizen--live in states--waiting for green card at present
if i have my own truck and authority in us--will it be illegal for me to pick and drop in canada?
what determines the ruling for that?
where i used to work we pulled lots of trailers with minnesota plates--but couldnt pick and drop in us----the pumpkin trucks dont all have canadian plates that run in canada and some canadian trucks run on michigan plates
if i could run openly and legally in both countrys--i think that might kind of be a bit of a plus
