WOW..I have been reading all the posts here and have to say I'm in shock... I have been working for them for few years and had to leave because the company (meaning office people) through a huge #### fit after I had to relocate from Indianapolis to Florida for family reasons.
I was their company driver than bought my own truck...was doing very well. But that was about 4 years ago.. I guess things do change.

I know why they did not want it rescheduled. that was when the economy was bad and they pushed that appt out so far because they would not have freight to reload me and they did not want me sitting there empty earning layover pay waiting to pick up another load and they did not have to pay layover pay if I was sitting there waiting to deliver til tuesday.
-
They've got an odd definition of layover pay. Arrow started with the layover pay after 48 hours of sitting still no matter what I was doing. And that was retroactive to the 25th hour.

Brother, I've got some bad news for you. I guarantee you you're wrong. Marten wasn't after you. They didn't even really care that you exist. They made the appointment based on that load and that load alone. It was made by Customer Service in regard to this combination: What's too early? What appt times are available on the receiver's schedule? What're the receiver's hours? What is our likelihood of getting it powered and there by a given time?
This is the issue with Marten. They're not actively trying to screw the drivers. Yes I said it. What's happening is that the entire method of operating the company serves profit margins and customers, and the drivers wind up getting screwed. -
I think your both right. The driver is considered last, but they also try to avoid layover pay. I know I sit as much as I drive, and have yet to get layover pay.
-
I used to work for a company years ago, that after 24 hours you got paid to sit.
Well 23 hours into it, you would hear, head to this point and call us, working on a load.
Ok. off I go.Well load fell through. Ok.
Second time, head to this point.
Opps lost it.
Third time, head to this point. No give me load number or pay my layover..
Got the layover money.

Marten revamped the layover pay recently. It used to be $50.. the 1st 24 hrs. then $100. the next 24 hrs.
It's now $100. per day from the first day.
Have sat in Laredo waitng for loads to cross, for 5 days.
$500. to sit around, or sleep, hmmm

Personally I don't think he's missed. Maybe Marten told him to stay out of here or get canned, he wasn't helping them at all.

My Marten buddy got in trouble because of excessive line 5 logging (off duty driving). Road service told him to bring a defective trailer to the shop, when he said he was out of hours, they said bring it anyway. Then he gets written up for abusing line 5.
I hope there will be a a driver shortage and the mega's can pound sand! -
. Even when I'm successful, the FM doesn't have the business sense to try to have something ready earlier, or to even realize that," Hey this guy will run his tail off, let's benefit Marten and him, and turn this truck into a money maker.
Ok well here is the problem... How long have you worked for them? Most FM have any where from 50 to 60 drivers on there board and you want them to remember what you do with every load?? Come on DUDE!! those days are gone!! there used to be a day when companies were smaller and dispatchers knew your name, your wifes name, you habbits, abilities and so on, but honestly they are gone! You are doing the right thing by calling shippers and recievers and asking for earlier apt times if you can make it! 90% of the time I was successful when I would do this.. I would then call my FM and advise them of what I had done and when I hope to be empty and if they could pass the info along to the planner. Because as you may or may not know, your dispatcher has nothing to do with you getting a load!! Believe it or not FMs in todays larger trucking companies are nothing more then "middlemen" They are the messengers thats it!! Im sorry but you are just a truck number who is showing on the screen that you are scheduled to be here or there at a certain time, thats it!! Gone are the days of " Ol Billy Bob runs his tail off he will be there early so lets look for him a load" They dont know you!! Sorry
