FORT MILL, S.C.-- One person is dead and 2 others are injured after a tanker carrying fuel crashed and exploded on Interstate 77 just over the South Carolina border.
The accident happened just before 3 p.m. Monday on I-77 South near the Gold Hill Road exit.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the tanker and another car collided, causing the tanker to overturn and catch fire.
The fuel the tanker was carrying ran into the storm drains along the expressway sparking several other fires.
The driver of the tanker was confirmed dead on scene.
Two other women were taken to Piedmont Medical Center with injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol Accident Reconstruction Team is on scene to reconstruct the accident.

Talked with a MTM driver yesterday and he said that the autopsy report came in on Josh. Apparently when he hit the barrier seperating the north and southbound trafic it severed his spinal cord, didn't say that he expired imediately ... #### ... that would be a heck of a note to lie there paralyzed while you burned.

Went by the 87 yardstick enroute to York SC to drop part of a load ... the skid marks left by the tires are all over the wall 3 and 4 feet off the pavement ... couldn't figure out how the wall stayed intact ... but the rig tried to climb that wall in several different places covering about 300 yards before the tractor went over ... it's a sight I wont soon forget.

That's my worst fear, burning alive in a wreck. I hope he went quick. Sounds like he died similar to Dale Earnhart which would of been quick.

    RIP driver!

This isn't over yet, according to the MTM people I talked with ... those cameras on I-77 were working as the accident occured and the SCHP are in possession of it ... so exactly what happened will come to light one way or the other.
