jmtruck,
I really don't think now is the time to be jumping into the hotshot business. I have seen the amount of freight that comes out of the southeast & it is pretty slim unless you have someone willing to give you steady work already? The cars that are there are pretty spread out & usually don't pay much. Leasing on with some of those h/s companies usually benefits only those handing you the paperwork to sign.
Hold on to the day job until the economy improves.(with any luck)

Can someone direct me to a website that contracts out jobs.
-
Are there any hotshot drivers still out there???
-
Yes, there are still hotshot drivers out there. Some of them are actually making some change.
Yep, you can believe it. Just do a search for hotshot jobs. Ummm I don't know if I'll get it trouble for this or not but you may want to make sure you read the fine print on ANY lease before you sign it. I'm very serious here. Take the time to read the CONTRACT OR LEASE BEFORE YOU SIGN IT!! This is all I am probably allowed to say so I'll leave it at that.
Some other things you may want to keep in mind.
Most "Flatbed" hotshot companies want you to have at least a 40' gooseneck trailer. Now I don't mean 40' overall length but 40' of loadable flat space.
You want to make sure you have at least, 1 yr of verifiable flatbed experiance.
Class A CDL
No more than 2 speeding tickets in 3 yrs.
No Felonies, DUI, or DWI's.
No Serious moving violations. *Running stop sign or light*
No Accidents
Not to many DOT "OOS" (out of service) violations. Either vehicle related or driver related. They all count against you now after CSA 2010
Now, if you can get past all these requirements, I say "GO FOR IT"
Good Luck and God Bless -
You may want to check out Cheetah Transportation Services out of Alvin, Tx.
They do run the type of equipment you have. -
I leased on with ACME Truck Lines in June of this year. It is a perfect job for a retiree like myself. I have seen a couple of their billboards in Louisiana stating that they are hiring.

Welp I was going to say I see alot of hotshot trucks with gooseneck flatbeds running around PA here in the gas/oil fields.
-
Thumper, what do you mean by "biggest mistake I every made".
I am looking into hot shot, so please tell me why you think this way. -
I'm also leased on with Acme, me and my uncle have 5 tandems that
we lease to them and have been staying pretty busy.
We just bought a straight truck to lease on and will be looking for a driver
for it, also we need drivers for our tandems.
And yes they have been putting up billboards all over LA, and TX stating
that they are in need of O/O's.
Yes there is a lot of drilling going on in the PA, WV, and NY areas.
And they do need trucks of all sizes to do hotshots.
We are always running equipment and pipe from LA up there.SoTexCoyote Thanks this. -
Hey Coonass,
What terminal? I loaded the other day by Laredo, and delivered in Houma. Saw several terminals during the run.
