You are so right about a "kind word." I don't think that most people really do realize the power of words, particularly kind words.

Of course we all know that unkind words can cut a person to the quick, but a lot of folks forget how much help kind words can be.

You are a good man sp, and a value to the folks who read this forum!

Mr. Southernpride, you and I have never talked before. But Reading your post I was touched, and it brought me back to a time years ago. I had a really bad accident back October 21st of 2000 Long story short, when I showed up at the hospital they didnt think I was going to make it, I made it through the first couple of surgeries (they cut the front of my skull off and put it back on, including removing a piece of my skull from my left eye) they said I would never be able to drive again.

That was a million miles ago and about 32 hours of piloting a Cessna 172. I made the decision not to listen to the doctors that said they didnt know how id recover, instead I did everything I could to recover. Now im able to live my life with very little impediment from it.

As well about 10 years ago my Grandpa had a stroke, he was 67 years old. The doctors told us he would never be the same and it would be a long time before he recovered.

3 weeks later he was out mowing the grass and cutting down trees. He will be 77 next week, and since that time he has completly gutted and remodeled his new house, as well as built an addition to it, and completly landscaped the place, not including thosands of other little projects he has done.

I am telling you this story because you sound a lot us, never let them tell you that it is going to take x ammount of time to recover, it is going to happen as slow or as fast as you want it to, it like many things in life wont be easy, but as im sure you already know nothing worth having is.

I hope you have a very speedy recovery, and that you are able to stick it in thier eye with how fast you boucned back - Nick

I hope you are feeling better southern pride! I been offline about 2-3 weeks with all kinds of problems too. But yours made mine seem small :) It started out when I broke a tooth and the filling fell out. I was in extreme pain for two days until my dispatcher got me to the Walcott TA dentist. I was shut down for 5 days while I nourished the antibiotics and Vicoden. Meanwhile, I dropped my laptop and the hard drive crashed. Then I got deathly sick and begged my dispatcher to get me home. The worst part was an uncontrollable cough. I couldn't lay down from the coughing and was up for pretty much 3 days. The fourth day I was under a Tyson load fighting to get to Hammond, LA. Sick, I had to get some sleep and took some Nyquil and that was all she wrote. I was able to sleep 5 hours but it put me behind on my schedule. I was 30 minutes over my 14 and 26 miles from the customer when I crossed the I55 LA scales and some 6'6" tobacco chewing DOT officer was standing beside the scales and asked for my logbook. Crap, busted. I got put out of service for the first time in my career. I coughed all over him :) I drank some more Nyquil and slept a little more while another driver got my load. The fifth day I made it home and to the doctors and he said I had pnuemonia in my right lung. I been on more antibiotics for 5 days now and feel 75% better. I came back out on the road this morning and stopped at Walmart and bought me a little Acer netbook. I like the little thing. HP is fixing my laptop under warranty.
Anyways get plenty of rest and sounds like the worst is behind you.

Well, about time for an update please SouthernPride!

And a little word of wisdom from an ol RN - a positive attitude and lots of laughter are what get you through. You can fight anything with them and recover.

    Get well soon!!

Southern Pride, Just found the OP on this thread. I congratulate you sir as I have been reading your posts for 3 weeks now and couldn't believe that you would care enough of us newbies to continue to post your words of wisdom after a major stroke like you had. God Bless you and you will be in my prayers for a full recovery.
