How far do you go in thirty five years? I guess only God knows for sure but I seem to average about 150,000 miles a year. Five million would be a good guess. Some years were running at 170,000 but I seem to have tapered off back to 150,000 the last three or four.
No accidents except one laid over on its side which was a mechanical failure when they first came out with air ride suspension, Neway air suspension in particular. They had a multiplicity of valves that all worked against each other with the end results being many role overs until they decided they had a problem, which they did correct. -
Hi. My first post here at TTR.
1 million in 8 years, then 1.2 million in 10 years, then I retired. My "award," given on the day I left the company, was a jacket and a wall plaque, both of which had my name spelled wrong!
Both of my trucks were hit-and-runned in truck stops (yeah, we caught both guys), but I wasn't responsible (hard to hit another truck when you're in the sleeper).
JB Hunt used to give $ awards to million milers. I think it was $5,000 or maybe $10,000 for a million safe miles. Better than a jacket!Dave 1960 Thanks this. -
25 years on the road, no accidents and no tickets. 2,375,000.

Don't pay much attention to adding them up, just drive em. But must have somewhere close to 3.5 no chargeables ever and the last speeding ticket I got was about four years ago. Now before you "hotshots" say I an't truckin if I aint't speeding, I say BULL!!!! all you need to do is keep the left door shut, turn the c.b. off a get down the road. tonite I'm in Junction city Ks, deliver topeka in the morning then on east to shelbyville Tn. I drive the blue freightliner century class with the red skirts that just blew your doors off! by the way, the handle's "trainwreck" yell and say "hi!"

3 million plus. I've been at if for 31 years. Some years, ran super hard, others not balls to the wall.
Tickets? A few, but the last 10 years or so I got smarter. And being a governed company driver didn't hurt. The old days with the big rides gave a lot more opportunity to get in trouble.
A couple of fender benders in my NYC days, and when I was 21 years old, I rolled one when a dump truck cut me off on the NY Thruway. Totaled the rig, walked away with a bruised shoulder. Twas a grace of God thing. And believe me, it calmed me down.
No accidents for quite some time, it just seems second nature, and I'm a lot more attentive than when I was a young pup. Usually snag a trophy in the company rodeo and I usually hit a dock first shot. We all have our days.
So, how many dotted white lines do y'all think that equates to? -
I was only at the wheel full time for 8 years.Mostly lowboy work with over size loads. This type can be stressful but basically easier. Here in South Africa with oversize we don't travel at night or on week ends very often.Only about 70 000 miles a year. Our long haul guys can ave 20 000 to 25 000 per month.I am against this as this is pushing to hard and they have little sleep and plenty of accidents.
Dave 1960 Thanks this. -
The real question is: How many million milers do we have in backing up?
-
Around 1.2 to 1.5 after taking time out of the truck over the years. No accidents and one revenue ticket when my trailer ran a red light.
