Hey, I am suppose to be heading out in 3 to 4 hours down to Charlotte for Orientation but I've been having second thoughts. I have a little bit of trouble reading/writing, how much is this going to effect me down there? Basically I'm looking to find out how much is going to be class work. I think I may be able to keep up with the truck driving part of the class but actual class work may be difficult. ANY info on your experiences will be a great help, and even a hit or miss when deciding if I am going down today. thanks.

well if you are having trouble with reading and writing how are you going to read the street signs/road signs also when you log your hours you will need to spell the city that you are in. so i would say it would cause a lot of difficulties in the trucking world :biggrin_25511:

Most orientations is filling out your application, insurance forms, getting acquainted with the company and equipment they use, and safety videos. Have you app info and insurance info in a notebook so you can copy it off. The rest will be easy for you. GOOD LUCK!!!

Your reading/writing seemed good to me from your post. Ya, there's not a whole lot of real writing, other than forms, and about the only thing that takes a lot of thought is the trip planning. I wouldn't think it is going to be much of a problem. If you're that worried about it, pull the instructor over to the side and explain it. I never ran into anyone, well maybe one, person at SNI that wouldn't give a guy a hand.:biggrin_25525:

Now get in that car, and get going!:biggrin_2559:

not sure what the source of your troubles are, but you might want to be extremely careful if you are going bulk. there can be many fill lines grouped together, with products that are similarly named and if you hook up to the wrong one there can be nasty consequences.

I don't know how Schneider handles it but at SPCR we never hook anything up until a plant worker actually puts his hand on the line. Then we make him sign the travel order saying he has reviewed the product, we are putting it in the right place and his tanks will hold it before opening the valves. I will look at the tags on the pipes but more often than not the name of the product is different than the tag with brand names. Its like Coke or Pepsi.
