As far call, said its logistics. Its easier to train a newbe on an auto than repair a manual after the idjit tears it apart from lack of proper training and experience.

i can see the owners point of view, although i am currently driving a company auto truck (Iveco with a Euro-Tronic) what a #### box, give me a MANUAL BOX EVERY DAY please give me a manual PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I really really hate this Auto it bucks, it takes far far too long to engage a gear and it won't downshift or upshift quick enough, what a heap of crap

The new ultrashift+ from Eaton definitely puts all that that in the past. It shifts fast, and launches smoothly, the hill-hold feature isn't bad either. If it becomes standard I doubt too many people will still complain about how it drives, just that its not a manual (just like people do when comparing regular cars).

over here in europe there is almost no road truck with manual anymore it is very rare
even construction and log truck have it more and more ( since truck makers

introduced off road mod -with special software that allows higher rpm

on heavy excavations on the large slopes will not change gear....

also on soft ground it is smarter than road automatic ......

they also have some special functions like rocking eco power

maneuvering quick shift from R to 1st ( some makers offer this even in road vehicles)

and most of drivers wont drive manual

volvo i-shift is one of best and also MAN (ZF AStronic ) is very very good ( gear changing strategy)

here most cars are still manual

but now there is more and more dsg smg and similar gearboxes with 2 clutch

Until recently, I've never driven a car automatic

now we have audi a6 3.0tdi 240hp quattro facelift automatic and it is

pretty strange to drive it I have no sense of speed ( for eqample on manual car if i am in 3rd gear that would be something like 50-60-70kmh and i no need to watch speedometer

    also maneuvering is quite strange

Is that really that big difference between European and Us auto trannys? Over here some of them don't really need manual intervention at all...

I've driven the older Ultrashift as well as the Volvo I-shift. That I-shift was VERY smooth and slick. Most of the time you never even knew when it was shifting. Great on hills and city traffic. The Ultrashift was noisy as all get out and always seemed to hunt for gears on hills. From what I understand though most of the hunting problem was due to the programming.

I still prefer a manual non-syncro box though. Mind you I learned how to float the trans properly from early on. Most new drivers can't drive a manual properly to save their lives.
