What all did they do to turn that up to a 550? I was in the shop the other day and was asking about getting this ISX 400 turned up and was told that they would have to replace injectors, turbo, and something else. :biggrin_2556: Never heard all that before, I was just wondering what all was required for them to turn yours up. I assume yours was a 500?

I bought a Volvo from Arrow and have had nothing but problems so far, clutch, electrical, oil cooler gaskets and on and on and on. Never again........

it's much more the fact that ya'll bought volvo's then the fact that you bought them from Arrow.. plain and simple, they are maintenance nightmares. good when new but not used.

I was also shopping for a Volvo but I think MM is right, they are OK when new but seem to suffer more than their fare share of problems. But can you put problems in the driveline at Volvo's feet? Isn't a Cummins engine/transmission the same in other trucks?

I agree 100%.... I will never buy another Volvo. It doesn't matter who is selling it. My thought process for cost effectiveness has turned out to be a major headache.

The only issue with Arrow is they do not stand behind the equipment they sell. Even after two days.....

the driveline is univeral if a cummins. but the problems suffered most by volvo's are electrical and those are all volvo. And they will drive you friggin NUTS!! my shaker has a few itself so I can't say much but they are nothing serious.

Mine was a 475HP at 2100rpm rated engine on the plate, and they had to run the S/N to find out what it could be tuned to. It does depend on the injectors, pistons, etc that it was built with.

It took nothing but a reprogram to hit the 550HP mark, and it does seem to be running stronger. Still not a dragster, but much less shifting under load. It showed 6.7mpg on the dash running 70mph down I-75S into Florida yesterday (at 80,000lbs), which is a big improvement, but I'm still playing with it - so I know my mpg won't be great on this trip.

As far as electrical problems, alot of it probably has to do with taking care of the truck, and especially winter washes. I was reading an article in LandLine awhile back about the chemicals they use on the roads instead of salt and what corrosion they cause. The best thing they said to do is to spray the underside of the truck down whenever you can with a high volume of water at low pressure (not pressure washing).

I haven't had electrical issues (or air system problems) with my truck at all, but it was based out of Jacksonville, FL since new - that may have saved it some.

    outerspacehillbilly Thanks this.

If you're ever up in Roanoke, VA - the KW/Volvo dealer off I-81 at exit 150 has been really good to me in the past. I was there to have a ground cable replaced (damaged when the starter was changed) and they were on time and quick about it. They only charged me half an hour labor to make some programming changes ($47.50) the last trip through, and replaced the wiper motor under a recall for free.
