The more i talk to drivers of different companies and such the more i want to stay solo. I ahve heard so many horror stories of teams gone bad. I have now found a place that i will rely on very much when i have questions that i may have. Stevens sounds like a good stepping stone and even possibly a home for a driver if you do the job right. Thanks smoker for starting this tread. I have learned what i need to know and now feel real comfortable about my decision to go with stevens.

The paper work that i got from them mentions a deposit for a pet under 50 lbs but in other parts of this thread you mention that pets are not alllowed now. I was just wondering if i got a the copy of paper work that is out dated.

Again thanks to all of you for answering the questions i have been asking.

I'm not sure on the paper work. They specifically told us no pets. Now if they have a pet deposit for <50lbs or whatever it may be, that would make me even happier with stevens. Most companies I talked to, that even allowed pets (most don't), was 1 pet 25lbs or less with a substantial deposit.

What about alliance fleet? I would imagine it's more about safety than anything, but ya never know.

No pets when driving for stevens. You will see drivers with pets, they are grandfathered in, as they had the pets and paid the deposit before the change in policy. The change was not so much about Safety, but demands from receivers not happy about drivers allowing their dogs to defecate around the dock doors. So once again, irresponsible drivers cause more restrictions for all of us. Think food safety also.

yeah i can see that. Oh well at least bear can stay home and run in the yard instead of around the cab of a rig. Thanks for the info.

    Hey all.
Oh hometime, but more by mistake than planning.
I was set to run from Morris IL to Indianapolis, then run back empty and run the same thing again, then go home Sat afternoon to Monday morning.
So, Friday morning I miss my appointment at Wally World DC, so I call dispatch and FM and nothing can be done until Tuesday morning.
So, drove an hour north and am home until Tuesday sometime at earliest. Have to call in Monday morning of course.
So, home for the weekend. Long week! Almost 3,000 miles, and 2,000 I will be paid on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Like the fleet so far. Doing Kraft/Nabisco loads from Chicago and Aurora to MI, IN and OH, and backhauling the freshly baked goods to Chicago for distribution later.
Lots of free crackers, pretzels and snack goods.
Lots of miles, good places to overnight, and several good Petros or other mom and pops along the ways.
When construction season is over, I can save a good hour or two every run, but same miles. So far found quite a few better/shorter routes to these places. Some more refining and I'll settle into some good runs.
Work each other weekend doing runs between Aurora and Morris, IL, in and out of Chicago, too.
I missed my WalMart time because I almost got involved in a truck/car wreck on 80/90 EB at the IL/IN line. The car in front of me moved into the left lane, striking his rear left quarter into a 18wheeler's right front corner, and the rig was just a bit ahead of me to my left. They started slowing, and I got on my brakes and tried going into right lane, but cars there. So, I got over as far as I could and slowed as much as I could, and somehow that car was t-boned on driver's side in front of that truck and they both slowed down along my left side. I got into right lane eventually and stopped on shoulder. 4wheeler had fouled his briefs for sure! His car will be totaled, but he is unhurt. The big rig was damaged from grilll to bumper, headlights out.
All I had to do was tell the cop what I saw, and the other 4wheelers did the same. The car driver admitted he messed up. A couple hours later I was finally into Indiana. But, missed that WalMart load.
Hope you are all doing okay, and don't have any close calls!

Glad to see you dodged that one Smker.
I had similar experience saturday morning on I-10 just east of Houston. Was in lane #3 at 4:30am. Just heading out for my "must be there" delivery in Laredo (turns out the reciever was closed for the weekend...but that's another story). I got a flash of light in my left mirror and when I looked back there was a pickup bouncing off the retainer, headed for my trailer. Sparks everywhere. He was missing a wheel, that shortly bounced on past me on my left.
I don't know what stopped him, but somehow he never hit the trailer. Just skidded along making a show of sparks.
After a minute, I realized I was still holding my breath!
I'm back in Houston now waiting for a 6am drop, then on to Dallas for another drop.
Hope no one gets the bright idea that I need to visit the yard again!

Well the trucking gods are smiling on me again.
Dropped my load at WallyWorld this morning in Cheyenne and immediately headed to Holcomb. Got there this afternoon and my load was ready.
Barely made it to Garden City by the end of my 14, so after a good night's rest, I'm off to Compton.
Wonder if Ralphs will take this one early? Not due until tuesday morning.
    Well, we'll see.
Made it thru that rain from Dallas the other day. Boy, was it coming down! Didn't know if I should drive or Scuba dive.
I should sleep like a baby tonight...with the wind rocking this crate like it is. Hope it calms down by early morn.
TLea...if you ever get done with Gonzo, let us know how you're doing.
    Take care people.

I am doing good, ended home time drove down to windsor co and picked up a kodak load going to Pharr TX. Had an open window of 0800 to 1600 for delivery on Friday, but today Stevens repowered the load as the forwarding warehouse, wants it at 0800 on Friday. Handed it off to a team, here in Lubbock TX, where I delivery in the morning, and then off to Cactus TX to pick up a meat load.

I am having fun with Gonzo...

I am debating on what to do and was looking for a little input from some of the Stevens' drivers if you don't mind. I am currently in school and will graduate at the end of this month. I have a few options but I am afraid of going to orientation and being sent home without having a chance to prove myself. I have one accident and one ticket in the last 3 years on my mvr, problem is the ticket was for 16 over and the accident was a rear-end that was my fault. A few companies turned me down due to one or the other, but I seem to have the go ahead from at least 4 as of right now, one being Stevens. Stevens has been the number one on my list of companies from the beginning due to their seemingly strict policies on appearance and safety, but I have a few drawbacks making me apprehensive. One is the time out, I know they claim 3-4 weeks, but after having talked to them and a few drivers it seems that 5 weeks is the norm. I don't think I will really mind that so much when I get nearly a week off after, but my family will. My next apprehension is with orientation, I am afraid that because of my mvr I will be sent home from orientation like I said before. My third apprehension is with where the truck has to be during home time. I do not live anywhere near a terminal, and am unsure of the location of any drop yards. I don't like the idea of having to leave the truck at a truck stop unattended for 5 days when just anyone can pull a hit and run that ends up going against me. The input I would like is maybe some of your experiences during orientation so as to possibly ease my fears of getting to Dallas and being sent home early, like how many people usually get invited as opposed to how many get hired afterwards and maybe various reasons they weed people out. I would also like to know if anyone knows of the nearest drop yard to the AL/MS state line on I20/59. Is there any leniency on where you are allowed to park the truck? I live just off the interstate but 20 miles from any kind of town. There are at least 4 truck stops within 10 miles of my house, but again I don't like the idea of parking there. The last question is, have I been slightly misinformed or is 5 weeks pretty accurate across the board? Thanks for any input you may have.
