I am seriously wanting to get into this profession. In 2006 I plead guilty to violating the Georgia Controlled Substance Act; secifically, posession of cocaine in exchange for adjudication to be withheld. This was under the Georgia first offender's act. Yes I know it was stupid, irresponsible, whatever you want to call it. I am not making any excuses for what I did It was wrong and I'm moving on with my life. Now, I was told by my attorney and by the D A and the judge that if I was ever asked the question on an application for a job or anything else that I can answer no. My concern is that if I answer no that it's gonna come up and I will be looked upon as a liar and probably blacklisted. If I go ahead and be honest about it and own up to it while talking to recruiters they're gonna jst tell me to have a nice day. I am going to take the classes from a local technical college, so it's not like I'm looking for a company to take a chance and pay for my schooling. Thanks y'all.
OK gotta ask

I think really the bigger question is what the hell were you doing in posession of cocaine in the first place, and having that as a part of your history why do you think driving a truck is a good choice as far as carreers go?
-
As opposed to what other kind of career? Hell maybe I should just go commit more crimes so I don't have to worry about any career huh? I tend to find those who judge as you do probably just haven't been caught yet.

You might try one of the on-line background check services and see what they come up with. I just looked and its going to cost about 40 bucks. Also may want to check with one of the state sites where you live and look yourself up there. It is public information and alot of States have sites you can search.

See I was hoping for something more along the lines of "Man I was being a stupid kid running with the wrong people, I cleaned up my act, been clean and sober for years now, and im just trying to get where I can make a living, and trucking has always interested me and it is something I really want to do"
Not well guess I will go commit more crimes.
Truckin aint for sissies, so you wanna be a big truck driver quit whinin. That is step number one.
How you present yourself makes all the difference in the world.
I know a thing or two about this because well, I am a company owner.Gereke Thanks this. -
Well lets see the original poster stated HE WAS WRONG for starters it was almost 5 years ago and MAYBE just MAYBE the poster has by chance GROWN UP?! EVERYONE makes at least one mistake and anyone who says they never have just did cuz they lied about it. Was it ok to have this drug NO, was it smart NO, not just NO but #### NO!
I guess if someone is brave enough to post such a question people outta be nice enough to respond with answers to the question presented NOT start questioning the reason/or right of the poster. -
Yeah that's what I really wanted to say and that's the truth. Written text has no emotion or gets taken outta context too easily. -
OMGOSH, he didnt say he was GONNA go commit more crimes! He was asking with sarcasm if you wanted him to just go be a criminal and not try to live a decent life......
As for you being a company owner....oh well that is not necessarily the reason you may or may not be right and if your "attitude" on here is also the real life one I am for SURE glad your NOT my employer.ozzspeed, Saddle Tramp and GasHauler Thank this. -
I take the subject kind of seriously, I have a titanium plate and 32 screws in my face because some one wanted to get high and drive.
So forgive me if I dont candy coat it and serve up my question to him with a cupcake.
I really dont think cochaine and big trucks go hand in hand, and that is why im asking those tough questions before offering any advice on how to make it in the truckin biz. -
What do you plan to tell the company when they dispatch you to Canada? That record will be in the international database.
Beginning any new relationship with lies is a slippery slope. Be up front with them. If you don't tell them you will not be looked upon as a liar, you will actually be one.
Pay your dues with a bottom feeder, keep your nose clean for a few years, work hard, network and move up.
