I saw it in the late 70's, maybe early 80's at the theater but it was common for the theater in Columbia, Missouri to re-run older movies during summer days.

Dan Bruno bought one of the trucks and broke down driving it home to St. Louis. At least, that is the way I remember reading about his adventure. It seems as though he no longer owns the rig.

    Excellent observation !

Then about three years later ... American Graffiti was made. Was it George Lucas or Stephen Spielberg that was the director for that movie?

I grew up in LVT and spent alot of time in Kagel Canyon as a kid. SO I know what you mean. My paper route was the tracks up foothill blvd, Like wentworth behind the Little League Diamonds, and all those house up on the hills east of there.

I always liked that movie for some reason. I haven't watched it in years though. I can't remember if it was good or if I was a kid and didn't know any better. It was a TV release initially but later had a theatrical release. The truck in the TV release was the only one they had for production so it really did meet it's demise at the end of that one. They bought multiple trucks for the theatrical release shooting.

I always liked the truck from Universal Soldier, even with it's floppy fiberglass armor. When the truck comes off a dirt parking lot on to the road in one scene it looks like the cab shell is holding on for dear life.

Even though it's only the trailer and not a truck, I always wanted to pull an old trailer with every tire flat on it and drag it across the Mojave with a bulldozer like in Tremors. Maybe even throw a few pipe bombs off the side for extra effect.
