Hubby started with the trial version. He doesn't have a printer. It quickly made his "must have" list. I see a printer in his future.

DDL is the way to go. It makes keeping track of your legal hours so much easier.

someone probably has answerd this one, but this is the first time looking over this thread....

they do accept DDL.com. didn't know they have the template for the 2-day log....but i'm going to keep using the old one till i'm told 'not to'. They dont know on their end i'm doing it off my laptop (other than the perfect penmanship and block numbers). All they see on their end is a black copy of the scaned sheet.

totally agree. I've been pulled around weigh stations before, and when they ask to see my logbook, and i pull out my laptop, i barely even got it cracked open, and they all basicly say, "oh its on your computer? dont worry about it....its good." if that alone saves me a $100 ticket for something they MIGHT have found in error, the program just paid for itself.

as far as swift going paperless, i'll believe it when i see it. Mark, who teaches log class in Edwardsville, has been saying "we're going to paperless in 2-3 months"......and this was at the start of the year. Now its "when the log books we have are gone...we'll be going paperless"...then they came out with the loose leaf pages.

From the way i understand it....swift has to first test and proove to the DOT they can operate and legally answer for hours a driver has worked, etc. A company can't just retro-fit all trucks to paperless, and overnight..poof....have paperless logs. And maybe swift has or is doing this. I dunno.

Yep, all will go paperless soon....... we have and it's a breeze. Remember this though; it's tied to the ecm of the truck and it's a tattletale. You spike the brakes and they know inside of 20 mins, same with running hot. The console will ##### you out and they will know. You cannot edit driving time either. It does fuel and state line reporting automatically. It also tells of over revs, over speed etc. It's worse than a teenage girl, it tells everything!!!!

It will cost them about $2100 for the unit plus install time. You will carry a paper log in case of failure. You will do a full 10 hrs off to the minute. If you tinker with it...it will tell them.

Mine has cool options like email and GPS but it's not activated. You can tell this Qualcomm from the old by the dome. See all the white domes on trucks behind the faring? Old ones, not as sophisticated, new ones use a flat antenna, square and black.

Oh yeah, a problem..... one of our guys was stopped, law wanted his logs, he couldn't access the system cause he was under some trees, law wouldn't let him move truck until he saw logs, law gave him a ticket and put him to bed for 10.

This can be fought and won...and it will be but it is a problem. Apparently logs aren't stored in unit but instead on server so you have to have up link. FYI
