powerpak, Let me start off by saying that im not saying that what you said didnt happen, But in all due respect I have to say that I have never seen or heard of most of what you claim to that extent ,and ive drove for Evenson twice!
With that being said, In all fairness to both parties you should calm down and take a deep breath before you go onto a public forum and make such claims! Its obvious you just quit them and are angry! I too have just quit them within the last three months, But would never slam them or their drivers like you have.........reread your post, your angry!
As for useless drivers, It is true that there is a handful of guys/gals not pulling their weight for several reasons.........A handful! and it is true that they expect the loyal drivers to pick up the slack!..........One of the reasons I got frustrated!
It is also true that their CPM is not great.........you knew that when you hired on!
But they do pay detention and stop pay,Ect............and have plenty of miles! more than most! And if your dependable they will run you hard! whine....you will sit!
As for getting home.........I was home EVERY week! I was preplanned back home before I ever delivered!..........and yes towards the end I was always asked to go back out instead of take time off to cover a"useless driver" load!.........Another reason I got frustrated!
No one ever asked me to run illegal..........If I farted around the house til the last min. my fault! And yes they do have some tight del. appt.,but you say you've been driving for 19 yrs? you know the game! they are a small fleet.........turn and burn is how they stay afloat!
To Slam Al in safety or Bob the owner, or kenny the shop man., by saying they dont care,leads me to beleive you never took the time to go sit down and get to know them. They are all ex truckers (O/O)and down to earth guys! as are the rest of the people in the office............and most would agree that REALLY know them!
They are trying to conform to these new rules and it is causing choas within the company! I know this because I took the time to sit and chat with those uncaring people.
As for comchek charges...Preplan! get your money when you fuel! no charge!
yes they have big petes! ever notice the little plate on the glovebox that says"custom made for Evenson trucking Amarillo,Tx" They take alot of pride in their trucks! Bob puts more into those trucks than most owner/ops!.....for those "useless drivers"!
and I am aware that he is having trouble with a few of the new trucks as most companies have with a new product. but the majority of their fleet has no problems! for a company their size to have brand new APU's on all trucks and to pay for satelite radio, and give every option that peterbilt offers in cab/sleeper doesnt help your argument that they dont care! or to lead people here that they run junk! their used trucks are sought after here in Amarillo,Tx!
When are drivers gonna start looking at what maybe they were doing wrong instead of always blame it on a company? there is no doubt Evenson dont have some things they should work on to make things better! they are very aware of it though! they had almost no turn over until recently and most is due to the new laws coming up. And just to prove that, when I quit the first time, I waited over 6 months for a seat to reopen.FACT! not everyone is miserable there.........they have got a BIG hanful of people in all dept. that have been with them for over 10 yrs! And this is the only post on here about them!
my reason for responding to this was not to slam you as I dont know your story nor will I call you a liar without facts, But what you are saying is far streched for the norm at Evenson! Im man enough to say that I left for a handful of stupid crap that I allowed to build up...but nothing close to anything you posted. I was always on time and was treated well.I chose not to sit down like an ADULT with the owner and work it out! Bob offered twice! I chose to quit! Im still on re-hire status and left with a handshake!

Another driver that had a gun held to his head and was forced to do things illegal.

 

I just reread my post and forgot a few things i felt needed too also be said!
Evenson for its size has an outstanding safestat score........I forget what it is but its low! They run prepass and I got mostly green. They have been making great strides to adhere to the upcoming laws!
Evenson only hires exp. drivers, and of recent got a wave of as the poster said "useless" ones! Most are very good respectful drivers,Hence their good safestat score!
If you look at this through the companies eyes, you would see this!
Drivers come home and dont tell the shop there is anything wrong with truck until dispatched....then scream to fix it!
Drivers dont check tire pressure........can watch TV when waiting to unload but cant pick up a tire gauge! The only flat I had there was what another driver left me! and for the record it was a good tire that was just run low!
Driver dont tell Dispatch they dont have hours to run.....accepts load, gets 500 miles away then tells them they have to restart!...........yes, thats a useless driver!
They are not swift,They cannot pull a truck out of thin air to cover a soon to be late load because the driver did not communicate!
Driver comes home and plays Taxi with company truck, hence why Bob requested that trucks come to yard!.........
The "useless" driver expects dispatch to babysit them from point A to B......put on your big girl panties and preplan your trip like a big boy/girl!
and the list goes on and on!
It was nice to go into places and NOT hear "heres another #### Evenson Driver"! they have a good name with their shipper/recievers. but its starting to deteriate because of that band of idiots dubbed the "useless" driver!
Every company has its crap that drivers ##### about, but to the original poster........why did you stay with them for a year, if all you said happened to you?
If even a fraction of that happened to me I would have been gone on month two!
I am very aware of the little things that build on drivers there, but they dont retain people as long as they do doing those things described! thats also why there is NOTHING anywhere on the web negative about them til now! And for those who are not aware of them, they have been in buisn. over 20 yrs!

Thanks...... But you read what these drivers post about their company's and you can usually tell if they were the problem or the company or maybe both. I mean they forced him to unload a load of trees with a broken arm, if it was me the trees would have stayed on the trailer.

They made me run 24 hours, what BS.

They let him go and his arm will never be fixed, does this goober know about workers comp laws?

Forces you to live in the truck, well most of us do when we drive one and are away from home unless you got a local gig and can be home every night.

Company has cut back on dentition and layover pay, well a lot of company's had to cut back on pay and other stuff to stay in business. Powerpak you know the economy is in the toilet and times are tuff.

Powerpak I don't know how long you been trucking but trucks do break down, new or used they all break down from time to time. Mechanical parts, electronic parts, light bulbs, hoses, air lines, wiring, etc.... they are not bullet proof and made to last forever. At least you don't have to pay the bill when they break down.

You have to pay for fedexing your paperwork in and pay for all expenses and wait to get reimbursed, well didn't you know that before you started work their or did they just surprise this on you after you worked their for awhile? I would get a comcheck for expenses and the fee is usually $0.50 cents or it is free with fuel.

And take your truck home, well it is nice when you can do that but some drivers abuse it. Who owns the truck the company does and they need to watch their cost. I have seen drivers load up the wife, four kids and the family dog and go to the lake for the weekend in a company truck or go grocery shopping. I have seen or heard it all. But in a small operation most times the company ever sees their truck and will be able to service it or repair things is when a driver is home and usually a driver wants things done to his truck when he is home. It hurts the paycheck when you have to take time while on the road to get your truck fixed or serviced. I don't know how far away you live from a terminal or what their policy is.

One shower in the mens room well I am sure it is a old terminal and I guess if I was a lady driver I wouldn't want to take a shower in the mens room anyway and like most company terminal showers they never get cleaned, well maybe at the big large outfits. I would go to the truck stop and shower anyway.

A machine gun? Well I guess the boss wanted to see it and that is why he brought it in their. Your working for a small company that don't have the rules and regulations that a big company does. I worked for a guy that kept a loaded shot gun in the corner behind his desk and a loaded hand gun in the desk, I think he was afraid of his ex.

You are working for a small company if you have a problem you can go to the boss if you don't like the way your are dispatched or forced to run illegal go to the boss, if your truck is not safe to drive and not getting fixed go to the boss, if you have a problem with the shower facilities go to the boss and if you don't like that a driver brought in a machine gun to the boss keep your mouth shut he may use it on you.



To let it be known I have never worked for this company, don't know anyone that does or has and will probably never ever work their.

 

Didn't they use run hopper bottoms back in the 90's or maybe still do?
