    I know the answer depends on where you live, how long you work in the business, owner operator or just driver. But let's compare two drivers in a middle sized city, one is newbie OTR truck driver, one is newbie taxi driver. Who would earn more? A taxi driver ever told me that it used to be the taxi driver, but now maybe close, is it true?

    lupe Thanks this.

    Depends on the city where you drive taxi. I used to make $500 a weekend here in the little village (5000 people) of Red Lake. But that was weekend nights. Wasn't like that through the week.

    I make more driving a truck. I drove a taxi for a few years in Tulsa, OK which is a mid-sized city.

    You also should take into consideration health insurance. That is one main reason I left the taxi. Self-employed, no health insurance. But I still don't want Obama-care.

    I drove a cab for a few days and that was enough for me. I didn't make any money. I had to pay 80 a day to use there equipment and buy my own gas. Its one of the worse jobs I ever had and also dangerous.

    I was in a Taxi in Las Vegas, the driver said he wanted to drive a big truck. I asked him how much he made, when he told me I asked him how I could become a Taxi driver.

    Truck driving is hard work, you away from home, and its in your blood. You will never here a Taxi drivier say it in his blood. I do what I do because its what I WANT to do.

    Safe Miles,

    In 1995 I drove a Taxi for 3 months in Las Vegas.

    Averaged $100.00 +/- per day, take home. I worked the day shift which was less money than nights.

    4:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    The deal went like this;

    The company split the meter 50/50 with you, you had to pay the company $1.00 per trip and, you and the company split the gas 50/50. You kept all of your tips.

    The scam was that certain businesses paid you to bring people in. Some restaraunts, strip clubs and a few smaller casinos would pay up to $3.00 per person. Cash money on the spot.

    And of course people would get in the cab and ask what's the best (casino/bar/strip club etc..). Whatever the answer was .. it's the one farthest away that pays the driver the most.

    The brothels in Pahrump paid really good too. Do it for a flat rate of $125.00 round trip and the "house" would give 25% of whatever the customer paid. While you sat in the bar and drank free sodas.

    All in all it was a pretty sleazy way to make a living.

    It's not so much "driving" as it is "hustling"

    Jimbo, did you quit because it was a sleazy way? Did you make more as a taxi driver than as a trucker?
