Hah! Yeah, that's some funny stuff there! Just TRY pulling that "Hello, my name is..." crap on anyone (other than your dispatcher) at any TMC phone number. The instantly rude voice on the other end of the line will ask what your unit number is, either that or your employee id number.

I've never been treated with anything other than respect when dealing with TMC - IN PERSON, but on the phone it is an ENTIRELY different story. Makes me want to reach out... and slap the crap outta somebodies face. I think it's an Iowa thing, they aint got much personality up there in them parts, at least not the ones I've had the displeasure of dealing with.

If I have to call the terminal for anything I always use my unit#. They don't want to know your name. It probly is the best way to find you in the system. How many John Smiths work for them.:biggrin_25525:. Still, would be kinda of nice if they know your name, but I'm sure with any big company you are just a number in the computer.

Having ones name on the door of their rig is meant to foster a sense of pride in the driver. The thought being you are more likely to take better care in the looks and operation of your rig if everyone knows who's driving it. Maybe. I guess. Hell I don't know but it sounds good though right?

So, I'm gonna have to pass you in the right lane?:biggrin_25522:

I don't want my name on the door...I put the name of the company that I'm leased to on the door.
I was leased to an outfit in the 70's that wanted us to put "Owned and Operated by XX XXXXXX" on our trucks, I didn't put it on there and they were always tellin' me that I needed to go get it put on...I never did.

Yeah...But they put it on in those stick on letters that are easily removed when you find that you can't make a decent living there...Or when they fire you!

That way there's no problem putting the next victims name on there!:biggrin_2559:

I train new students for T.M.C and cannot believe some of the questions that you students ask or some of the rumors that are posted... More than likely if you do not ask to get your name put on your truck they will not put it on there..... The shop has other things to do,, but if you want it ask them when you are issued a truck that they choose for you..

I meant rumors in general, But does it really matter if your name is there or not, i get people in my truck that come to tmc because of the good looking truck, name on the door,etc.. When they get out with me they realize this is hard work and long hours and decide this shiny truck and name on my door is not what i thought it was going to be! As a newbie i would not be worried about that, but worrying about pay and hometime if that is what you want. I personally have never been treated with disrespect,My fleetmanager knows me by name because i deal with him daily..How could you expect to call in and everyone know you personally with 2000 drivers on the payroll..

Well I was asking just because I was wondering why they put the name on the door not because I think its cool or that the truck is nice and shiny to be perfectly honest I dont really care bout the outside I care about the inside and how the truck is going to be my home away from home. Like the APU issue and the inverter issue. You should enter a thread alittle more caring if you are going to let it be known that you are a trainer. Just by your attitude alone can steer so NEWBIE'S away. So if you have any info on hometime or miles or the difference between percentage and per mile pay or the inside truck issues I stated above please inform me as much as possible. But dont down me because I am a NEWBIE and if I have a stupid question thats because its stupid to you but remember you were a NEWBIE once also.

It has to be a pride thing. Why put pilot names on the fighter planes? Same reason and they have dual exhaust.
