As a newbee, you can't just walk every time either. If you make a bad chioce, go as far as you can before doing something dratisic. The need for drivers is great but you can put yourself out of the game by being impatient. You goin to have to pay the dues, to play the game. If you can do two years with a good record , then you be picky. No fines, no bad reports, and for shure, no whipping up on trainers. drive55cat

For number 2...for those times when a decent company gets a bad wannabe "driver" (term used very loosely), and that (ahem) person ditches the truck, how do you / would you distinguish between that said scenario, and a bad company? From time to time, wannabes expect too much too soon.....so assuming co. met all above criteria, would that not just be a wrong assumption?
I do appreciate the input as I like the way you think........because I have years before I get to otr........I am trying to do as much research on company and people as possible, I believe that even though new, I'm nobody's flunky. There is a certain amount of b.s to be expected but do need nor wish to be rolled over. -
you will have lot of free weekend at T/A parked. Terminated for one accident at C.R. England. Thire to many student driver for the traieer.

ANY driver should listen to your comments. Many of us have learned the hard way about bad trucking companies. Foodliner is just what you describe...beat up equipment, dirty, rotten maintenance, even worse management. Driver beware. Thanks for your comments, I couldnt have said it better myself.

I suggest you read the comments from those who have learned. If you get on with a bad company YOU are putting your CDL on the line. They dont care, as long as you move that freight for even a short while until you quit or they fire you. By then, your DAC report is ruined and you end up having to accept positions with poorly run companies. Think about it, try to be selective..

do u ever wonder how much these companies actually spend on recruiting and training new drivers? plus the fact that a new driver obviously wont have the skills of an experienced driver
at what point will these companies give up, and instead of starting at 27 cents a mile, starting at 34 cents a mile, and instead of treating them like crap, treating them like humans
how is a high turnover like this good for any company??
i swear pam transport runs ads in every newspaper and online job agency 365 days a year......nothing against them in particular its just something i noticed -

your common sense shows! very eloqant and right on the money. Big orange plays a good game, covanent, England to mention a few. Very wise words and your not to tough to please. The horror stories abound!

That`s funny Driver, yes with experience we learn. I do believe with experience most drivers will be happier being Owner Operators. With companies the main issue for me was 1. Good Maintenance. 2. Reliable Paychecks. 3. Good Miles. What I experienced is ya best be carefull if the trucking company isn`t top class. Too many Mechanical Failures.

I ask the same question. This can also be asked about the "perfect" wife, husband, kids...etc. Bottom line-what are you willing to overlook. My hubby may be little overwieght being truck driver-but he loves driving. My kids may sleep til noon on Sat-but they hold down a job and go to school. I may be on the computer a lot-but I still cook dinner. Give/Take...Good/Bad....Live/Learn
