I am curious about W/S Flatbed Division. I have followed Chris, Cage, Warpdrvr, and D1 on the threads here.
I have applied to W/S and waiting to hear back from for the flatbed division.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Now I know it has to be some W/S Flatbedders around here somewhere.
If I am hierd I will have to do a thread on this. -
I thought all the skateboarders were o/o's?
Not sure but I think that was posted a couple months ago though so who knows?

I don't know either Wulf. I was talking to Matt in Recruiting friday about applying.
Was totally honest with him. Didn't hold anything back on the application. Matt said I would have to be in the flatbed division since I lived in Middletown, Oh. Cool, I think. I have 5-6 yrs flatbed exp, but been out the truck for three yrs now.
Been applying and applying to companies. I liked W/S and what was said about them. Also I asked about the 10 day course and thought it would be good for me to get back "use" to the truck. So, I hope to get a call from them sometime this week. -
Sounds good, I wish you luck.

How much do they pay a mile for flat bed?
-
i pulled a flatbed for w/s for a number of years. given there have been no answers from current flatbedders, i'll chime in.
according to the w/s web site, they are currently hiring flatbed drivers. while van drivers have to live within "a reasonable distance" of a terminal, flatbed drivers can live "almost anywhere" and still be considered for employment. it implies that flatbedders have the option of taking the truck home with them for home time.
flatbedders are paid the same mileage rates (they were, at least) as van drivers. it's a sliding scale based on years of experience (and w/s will have to verify those years of experience). i don't know the current rates w/s is paying, but it used to be that several years of experience would put you in the range of 33 or so cents per mile; the top rate was under 40 cents per mile.
please remember that w/s pays hub miles, ie, odometer miles.
the accessory pay for flatbedding used to be pretty good. full tarp/untarp was $45 if i remember correctly. partial tarp/untarp (you roll one or both tarps back to remove/add freight and then retarp) was $10 i think.
flatbed ltl was $40 per stop plus tarp pay; flatbed ltl rocks if you can get it. note that doing multiple stops from a single shipper is not ltl; ltl requires multiple picks and multiple drops.
any other questions?HouseOfPain Thanks this. -
i have heard the same things but i have seen several company trucks pulling flatbeds. i also know they do a flatbad training course in missoula thats 3 or 4 days or something. im not so sure they will take rookies as flatbedders, but thats based on absolutely nothing.

i was told in orientation back in september that they just started hireing company flatbedders again
American Trucker -
i have seen a couple of w/s company flatbed trucks pulling loads out of gypsum, co over the last couple of weeks.
w/s does hold a flatbed training course in missoula, which is primarily how to secure the load properly and then how to tarp it. dick used to teach it; that's where i learned how to flatbed. dick (and robin) taught me how to drive back when w/s had their own school as well.
w/s wanted about a years worth of experience before taking the flatbed course. i went flatbed after about 6 months, but then i'm special
(no cracks about the bus i rode to school)
