Can't understand why they would only have one person working on trailers on the weekend at Gary. Big ### trucking companies should have their maintenance facilities fully staffed at all times.

no telling how many guys call off for the night on Saturdays... You know they get to call in sick round there sometimes... lol
They surprised me and got my truck in Friday night... Then I busted my butt thinkin "I'll just go a little farther." 8.5 hours and I'm 30 minutes from the delivery, but I have a "set" appointment at 8PM... I guess I did pick this up a wee bit early... lol So I guess I'm gonna be hanging loose round here. There is a casino not too far, but not sure I want to venture there... hmm?

Well after getting screwed on this Sam's Club load with a LONG delay for delivery I got rewarded with a sweet trip out to Vancouver, Washington. Really looking forward to that as I have never been to Idaho, Oregon or Washington so getting to see some new places for a change.

Made it in to Oregon this afternoon. A really nice run all day starting from Little America, Wyoming. Brought out the old grill tonight and cooked up some blackened flounder and some sausage with steamed potatoes. Pretty good eating. Spoke with another driver that runs this area alot and said that route 14 along the southern border of Washington was a good road to run so I think I will take that tomorrow instead of I-84 across to Portland and then take I-84 on my way back east. Already got a preplan out of Portland heading back to Ellenwood so I will be able to get my safety meeting in for the quarter.

If you get loaded in Portland/Vancouver I highly recommend taking WA-14 back east to US 97S and catching I-84 across the bridge. It runs parallel to the Columbia river on the north side and is a really beautiful drive. Two lane road, lots of trees, grape vineyards and nice high views of the river. Also saw two big horn sheep on the slopes near the interstate. First time I have seen them in the wild, pretty impressive.

Well I-84 exit 188 in Oregon, highly recommended stopping area. Big lot in back of the Pilot, excellent place to fire up the old grill. Invited folks over the CB to join me if they had something to throw on the fire but alas no one took me up on the offer, oh well, blackened pollock, sausage and a grilled vegetable medley went down really nice:)

Well a perfect ending to a perfect day of trucking. Only had 8.75 hours available to work today. Rolled through eastern Oregon and took a nap for a couple of hours in western Idaho. Finished out my hours at the Idaho/Utah border rest area and fired up the old grill again surrounded by a grove of juniper trees. Burned some dead juniper under the full moon and enjoyed the night. Beautiful, clear cool night and even got a little bit of internet reception out here in the sticks:)
