it be nice to know be4 you apply with them. like we were going to drive teams. i have been in a semi for 9 years & driven dump truck. so therefor they want to send me to school and i would have passed. and waiting for partner to get out of school and as we all know her bmi is to high, i would have been locked in a contract with them with no team member.waiting for her to finish, so i can drive with her. meanwhile she gets sent home to get a sleep study done on her money, which she doesnt have.

down here, Publix has cheese on sale !!!!simplyred1962 and REDD Thank this. -
Did you bother asking any questions from the recruiters?
How about a quick look at the company website where it says flat out they don't take folks with a high BMI???
Yeah... I agree. This ought be renamed the "Random Thoughts by Mikey Thread." -
I have been driving for 10 years. Not once have I bothered to ask if my BMI could be an issue for getting a job. Come on people, get real. Have you ever looked at what comes out of a truck? There are a lot of overweight and obese drivers. That is the norm, not the exception.
I just spend a half hour looking on Prime's website on this too, and did not find a word about the BMI thing.
I know I ask a new company for the qualifications needed, hometime, pay etc. I would think a recruiter should spell out at least what the qualifications are. I don't care what else he lies about, but at least tell me what you expect of me before I get there.
I don't think it is called for to belittle the original poster as some of you have done. Shame on you. He came here telling us what happened to him, and to warn others about this practice. Disagreeing is ok, being rude is not.Native Dancer, Ducks, scatruck and 4 others Thank this. -
We had a kid who started driving for Prime about 4 years ago... standard kid 170-something pounds. Fast forward to a year ago last spring. 400-something-plus pounds, blood sugar out the roof, dead in his sleeper from complications from type II diabetes. The owner decided that was enough.

Trucker? 4 Years
yet in your post
i have been in a semi for 9 years & driven dump truck ?
And as for the # of NO HIRES at PRIME , not every company hires every applicant regardless if its PRIME , GENERAL MOTORS , BURGER KING or AMERICAN EXPRESS.
IP I have witnessed the recovery of 3 drivers over the years that passed away in their sleepers 2 were the size of JACKIE GLEASON , your company had the right idea by pushing the health issues as part of weeding out candidaytes. -
Not for the title of this thread though. Which is the subject at hand. -
Prime doesn't like fat Truck Drivers any more.

Prime should pay for your treatment of sleep apnea? Ok, then they should pay for treatment for every applicant that shows up with high blood pressure...
They get sent home too. They can reapply and return after they are successfully treated by the applicants OWN Dr.
Maybe someday they will be desperate enough to pay for treatment for everyone that gets rejected for not being able to pass the physical... Joe can't duck walk, he's got a bad hip... One hip replacement coming up for you Joe, we need you to drive our truck!
Prime's sleep study program is a continuing wellness program for CURRENT employees... You know, people who have invested at least 1 to 2 years of employment... (funny how that 1 to 2 years seems to be the same amount of time when the typical DOT med card expires)
Get the picture. It's a retention deal. They throw some money at
setting the whole deal up by having an onsite facility. The driver ponies up for the study and the equipment at a discounted price... Easy payments of $55 no interest. Payed off in less than a year. Prime keeps a driver with proven track record with the company, and helps a little bit in the overall wellness of that driver.
Is there any major carrier or any carrier for that matter that allows you to find your own Doctor to conduct a DOT physical at hiring? Does anyone know?
I know Prime uses it's own Dr at hire, and has a very short list of approved facilities a current employee can use to get their card renewed at expiration. -
somehow that is the fault of the company?? Its like all the fat people who want to sue McDonalds for making them fat. Look, ######...you're the one who CHOSE to go there 3x a day for 3 yrs. Its your own #### fault you weigh too much to fit onto a roller coaster.
I've been driving for almost 2 yrs. When i started, i weighed 250...i was already a big boy. now i'm a tick over 300. But once i saw my weight higher than a perfect bowling score...i said that was enough. No more fast food....(well no more than once or twice a week..TOPS) and no soda unless i'm out for dinner. 95% of the time i drink water. some fruit (though not as much as i SHOULD) and some dairy.
weight is starting to go down....but it all comes down to the choices we make.....and paying the King of Burgers a visit so many times you have your own crown waiting for ya...isnt going to cut it.gdyupgal Thanks this.
