THIS IS TO ALL THE NEW DRIVERS COMING INTO THE BUSINESS you should no that this business is not easy to get into and it's not an easy way to make a living to start with does this mean you can't do it absolutely not you can and if you have the dream go for it it can be a good business, one that you will enjoy BUT it will take a lot of work and you will face many disappointments along the way, here is a few tips to help you along the way.
first don't listen to all the gloom and doom that you here this business is what you make it , if a driver tells you you cant do it well that means he cant do it has nothing to do with you and what you can do remember that your going to hear a lot of that.
learn to take care of your self, stand up for your self a trucking company will not do it they will leave you hanging every time why? cause there a trucking company thats why.
keep enough money in your pocket to get home i have had to feed more then one driver that was left stranded 1000 miles from home because they got cross ways with the company the do it every day.
DON'T MOVE THE TRUCK TILL IT'S LEGAL you are responsible, you get the ticket, you go to jail, not the company YOU and you alone and the company will not get you out. thats why i drive my own trucks,
now this sounds like the business is all bad it is not once you learn how to take care of your self things will start to level out and it starts to be good business and you start to make a good living but it's gong to take you about six months or so before it starts to get good.
it's not all peaches and cream but it's the best busies you can get into if you have the patients to stick it out so don't give up that dream it can be a good thing if you have the patients. best of luck to all of you and welcome to trucking. southernpride![]()

Not bad advice from somebody who knows after driving for 45 years.

These two points right here need to be a docked thread and required reading for anyone coming here looking for advice on getting into trucking, especially the second one.

I'm not Southernpride but I saw your question. Unfortunately only you can answer that question. I started out pulling a van, then a flatbed, back to a van, then a reefer and found out the reefer suited me just fine. The trucking industry is Big and there's a lot of different trailers in it. You gotta find the one that suits you and there ain't none of'em perfect. I worked for 2 small companies, 2 fleet owners, 2 big companies and then decided I could do for myself and bought my own. Don't regret it either. Thing is it takes awhile to find your niche. Maybe a tanker, a grain trailer, a dump, you're gonna have to find your own way. Just don't be afraid to try. Best of luck to you.
