Thank you all, and yes this will be my first civilian driving job. I pray that this is it. I am over joyed, and shower praise to my father for his undeserved love and kindness.

That sounds like what the typical con would say.

You will find that the hardest road lies ahead.
adapting to the lifestyle of an otr trucker is full of boredom, stress, adapting to sleeping in a moving truck, and the fact that if you make it to year one you will be in the 15 percent who make it that far.
I spoke to Brian who hires for PAM.
He told me that as long as the felony was over ten years old they did not care what it was. And I think you can only have one drug or alcohol conviction in your lifetime.

I tend to be a compassionate person, and I'm actually glad certain companies are willing to offer an ex-con a decent living, however, I talk to a lot of new drivers who got the runaround from lots of companies about a 6-month gap in their employment record and I wonder if the industry's priorities are in order?

It's not just the industry, it's the entire system of things. There is no love. Our father commanded us to love one another as we would love ourselves. Instead this world revolves around self and self-preservation, that leaves little room for love of others. I often pose the question, how many, after disciplining a child for a wrong action would turn around and discipline him again later for the same act in witch you disciplined him before even though he has done nothing after the first act? Then the question arises, why would you do it someone who has already payed his debt to society. Treat a man like a dog long enough, don't be surprised that after a while he begins to act like one. And with that I step down off my soap box.

    Kris Pistofferson Thanks this.

Not necessarily. It will depend on time lapse, and company. You may have a tough time getting OTR, and it MAY be impossible with the "big companies." But that doesn't mean you will NEVER get a driving job.

It may be with an owner/operator, or a small trucking company. I don't believe that aggregate haulers and construction companies have such high standards. It really is more dependent on what their insurance carriers have to say.

That being said, if you have a RECENT drug conviction, it is not at all likely than you will find a driving job. But still, not necessarily impossible.

I have a felony, possesion of CDS. Mine was in 1998. I found a job out here. Be aware when reading , how old the felony needs to be. They do NOT go by date of conviction but when the sentence was completed.
Congrats Enigma on finding a job.

    That depends on the carrier.
With some it is the date of conviction like PAM according to their recruiter.
With most others it is the date you came off paper,ie parole, probation, release.
I spoke to a PAM driver briefly yesterday at a place I was getting loaded in Ga.
I did some freelance driving for my friend and we took his Peterbilt 379 down to Ft Pierce FL and dropped a load then came back to Wrens Ga and picked up some bags of chalk for Rhode Island . There happened to be a PAM driver waiting there and he told me he had been with the company for 2 years and most of their trucks were automatics. I personally would never want to drive a long nose pete full time.
They are too long, you can only see the back of your trailer through your mirrors.
Those hoods take a long time to get used to.
