When you are driving, I was wondering if it was very loud and you have to turn the speaker very loud to be able to hear audio well. And then that would be bad for the ear.
Does anybody know what decibels is the truck noise inside the truck with the windows closed?
Could it be compared to people talking in restaurants? The fan in the restroom?
How loud is it in the truck when you are driving?

All depends on the kind of truck you have I would imagine. I have a 2010 670 and I would say its maybe around 50-70 dB but that's totally subjective.

Is there something you can do to lessen the noise?
Can you wear some kind of ear-plug? (I know you have to be able to hear other car's honkings but I think they are loud enough even if you wear the ear plug?)

This would reduce noise by 22 decibels.Last edited: Sep 17, 2010

What ?????????
truckerdave1970, statikuz and Capt_Gruuvy Thank this. -
if you have to wear ear-plugs while driving, than i would suggest driving a truck with the pipes on back of it.
thelastrebel and statikuz Thank this. -
Lupe wearing devices that hinder the ability to hear is illegal in many states, its also unsafe. Here's an example. Your visilbity is limited due to a hill and a ambulance is coming from behind all lit up and sirens blaring. You won't be able to hear it because of the earplugs.

Depends alot on the kind of truck you drive and how old it is.
I have found That old frieghtliners are the loudest!
My hearing has suffered severely in the last 5 years. I almost didn't pass my last physical without a hearing aid. Protect your hearing, once it's gone, it never comes back!heyns57 Thanks this. -

The noise level in the truck is produced by the exhaust, turbo charger, radiator fan, transmission, tires, etc. If it is difficult to carry on a conversation, the noise level can damage hearing.
Quality road units are very quiet compared to the equipment of thirty years ago. Look for a tractor with a very thick floor mat and a good shift tower boot. Look for an exhaust system that is not mounted to the back of the cab, and does not touch the frame. Look for a flexible fan. Do not mount your deer-whistle near the driver's window. Closing the windows should block most tire and wind noise.JustSonny Thanks this.
